TD - did you write this in MS Word, so that simple 's got turned into "smart quotes"?  Three ways to deal with it: either i) turn smart quotes off in Word, ii) whenever you hit a ' and it turns into an extended symbol, hit Ctrl+Z and it'll put it back to being a ' or iii) Use something else (I use a text editor for writing parodies, so they're all saved as simple text, nothing more).

2 more today - the second parody on the site to each of the original songs. Yeah, I have three. (Some mean person gave me 1-1-1s! ARGH! I have voted on much worse parodies than these, and I have NEVER given out that low of scores to anyone! I'm betting whoever did that has never even heard the originals!)

Okay, my favourite one is "Ew Pork, Ew Pork," which is a parody to Ryan Adams' "New York, New York." (From his "Gold" album.) http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/ryanadams0.shtml

The second is a parody to Remy Zero's "Save Me." Mine is called, "Shave Me." (From the "Golden Hum" album, and I think it's also the theme to the show about Little Superman. I think it's called Smallville?) http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/remyzero0.shtml

The last one is "Old," making fun of Static X's "Cold," which is off the "Queen of the Damned" soundtrack. http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/staticx2.shtml

Please be kind if you choose to vote, especially on the Ryan Adams. I'm really trying hard on pacing and rhyming to the originals!

Ciao,
Klaire

I got a question for the editors: Do you reject certain entries you don't like?

Granted, you do reject any attack parodies, and anything with blatant pornographic undertones and such. But I can recall 2 instances where I've submitted parodies...although goofy, they met all the criteria of an acceptable parody. But as of yet, I've seen neither of them. Is there another criteria I haven't yet read about?

First one is John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland." Mine is "I Want to have some Wonder Bread." http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/johnmayer6.shtml (It's about snack time.)

The other one is "I Got you, Abe." That is a parody to noneother than Sonney and Cher's "I Got you Babe." http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/sonnyandcher4.shtml

Enjoy,

You'll have to ask Chucky about that one, because I think he's the only one who reviews parodies.  The rest of the editors tackle the rest of the site.

Here's a quick query:

You know that cell phone commercial where they sing Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me"?  Weeeeeeell...I thought it'd be fun to extend that parody because they only sang one line, but I was just wondering if that's considered plagiarism or inspiration.

Thanks!

I'd be willing to bet that misheard lyric is already on this site, so I doubt you'll get sued for using it.. I know I've seen misheard lyrics that only appear here used in print (Columbia House did a misheard lyrics catalog one month, and some were unique enough not to appear on kissthisguy or any other misheard lyrics site)..

I also reject partial parodies.. which if a song looks like it's not long enough, will get it rejected. Though it appears some partial parodies have slipped by me lately.. you can always email the parodies to me and ask me why I didn't approve them.. I do it around 6AM in the morning, so I'm not always fully awake (and I'm rushing to get out the door for work)..

and yes, I'm the only one approving parodies right now.. I still don't feel comfortable turning that over to anyone else. Plus, I want to make sure it gets done every weekday. None of the editors right now are on a tight schedule like that (the misheard lyrics are put into a buffer, so IndyGent doesn't have to approve 100 lyrics a day all at once).. I could try a similar approach for the parodies, but I think most people would like to see their parody appear on the site the next weekday...

I'm beginning to think that no one has heard of Sean Paul. I just spoofed his "Get Busy" and made it "parody". It is another one of those songs that mentions the big names at AmIRight. So far it only has three votes.

I ask that you at least check it out here: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/seanpaul2.shtml

I usually don't write parodies unless I get inspiration, and I finally got some inspiration.  Be on the lookout for "Saddam" sung to the tune of Junior Walker & the All-Stars' "Shotgun."  I am also planning to rework Ricky Nelson's "Teenage Idol" into something about "American Idol" (which I never watch) or amIright Idle (which has been canceled).

Apparently I was wrong. People haven't taken to kindly to this song. I've gotten no comments, so I don't know what I did wrong. I'd ask you guys to take a look and tell me what you think. Is it really that bad, or is this another strike of the rampant 1,1,1er?

Well John, I took a look. I don't know the original song, so I am afraid I can't comment one way or the other on pacing. That being the case, I didn't vote. The idea is good, especially the part about putting off studying to write the parody (and I did quite like the line: Got so nervous I think I misspelled "John"), but overall, the delivery did not come across well. Potential for humor - but it is not quite there.

Hope these comments are helpful, and hoping your next one is a hit!

Merry :)

Yeah... and who'd want to try sour rice? (hey, ain't that French for mouse?)  ;-)

I've got a couple of nice ones coming up: my first religion-bashing parody... Strike Me Smite Me (to the tune of Bend Me Shape Me), and a Yellow Submarine parody that pretty much wrote itself - while driving in this morning, I saw a huge load of bluebells and thought "A Sea of Blue"... which was inevitably followed by "A sky of green" leaving the title "Acid Trip Machine" almost singing itself :-)

In the SUbject line, you misspelled your -- it should be "your". "You're" means "you are", so "What's you're problem" means "What's you are problem", which doesn't make cents...oops, I mean sense.

Correct Ellipsis... one thing's a shame, though: if you have to post as a ghost, I'm not going to have the pleasure of correcting you in future :-)

Back on topic... I just thought I'd post the inspiration for my latest opus:

Well, it made me laugh...

"souris"...or "sourris" ;)  Don't remember my spelling.  I think it is one of the conjugated forms of "to smile" though :)
