Subject: a proposal due to large interest in amiright idle

Written By: Tone-Def on 02/12/03 at 05:50 a.m.

since they'res lots of people who are not going to get into amiright idle, i think that all the people who don't get in should still get some chance to do something similar but without much responsibility for those outside of the competition - something like you are the weakest link for amiright. Everyone who signed up for amiright idle would automatically be in and it would be one person eliminated each week through the votes of other contestants - if someone doesnt submit a parody they will be automatically eliminated and everyone who submitted one no matter how bad stays in.  The parodies for each week would be determined by dice - a pair to decide the band or singer that must be used for the song (12 very well known and fairly easy to parody ones for the 1st half and more challenging artists to parody for the second half) and another die for the subject of the song (very broad categories for the first half and more narrow ones for the second half). As contestants are eliminated from amiright idfle they should be allowed to jump into this.

Anyone interested in running this it shouldnt be very hard at all. I would do it except i dont have dice and i want to compete but if there are no takers i'll do my best to run it

I like the idea about having the loosers still participate. You just kind of lost me on the dice bit... And with the well known artists, that varies from person to person.

I'd be up for it as well.

I assume you pick 12 well known artists/songs, then roll dice to see which one gets used?  I have a twelve-sided die (break out my old Dungeons and Dragons gear...don't think less of me =) ).

For example:
1-Brittney Spears
2-Avril
3-AC/DC

Quoting:

For example:
1-Brittney Spears
2-Avril
3-AC/DC

End Quote

Yeah, then it's back to the what's familiar with whom. For example, I don't think I've ever hear an Avril song. I have also never listened to Brintey Spears on my own free will. (I do have some parodies, but that's because I had a friend who enjoyed Britney's "music.")

I don't know if I'm alone in this catagory, and I'd just be screwed when it comes to writing a parody to a song of which I'm not familiar. I just thought I'd bring up the arguement!

It's a good argument.  The alternative would be for everyone to just submit a new parody of their choice for each round (like the amiright idle thing).  Maybe having themes, but no specific singers.

For the record, I have also never heard (or parodied) an Avril song.  I'm ashamed that I know the Britney songs (and parodied two of them), but I was forced to watch the Top 10 Britney videos on MTV over the summer  ;D

AC/DC on the other hand is cool (old, but cool)

Yeah. There are only two excuses to listen to Britney Spears:

1. You make fun of her... such as in the form of a parody...

or...

2. You heard that audio clip of hers when her mic was on and she was swearing because her pants were too short!

I actually like the idea of running different contests, but not at the same time..

I think once amIright Idle is over with, I'm going to focus on setting up the Hall of Fame..

after that, we could try your idea, though I'm not sure if I understand it completely..

If amIright Idle is the popular success it appears to be (almost 25 entries so far), I think we should repeat it in the fall...

I acutally thought about trying to setup weekly topics at one point too.. maybe we could try a weekly contest, and at the end of it, see which one people like best through some sort of voting mechanism
