Subject: The future of the Amiright awards

Written By: Billy_Florio on 02/18/03 at 10:33 p.m.

Well, as we all know, Junior has given his control of the awards over to Mike Florio (my brother), and in the past few weeks, it has gotten overshadowed by amiright idle on the agenda.  Mike has taken over, and voting  will be schedualed as soon as possible.  I am assuming that we would have to talk to CHuck about when we can post the nominees.  I say WE, because although the awards are being administered by Mike, he asked for my help in the nomination process, and so I gave it to him.  I am acting as the spokesman of the awards today because Mikes computer is being affected by problems, and he is unable to get an internet connection.  (Is it just me or does this sound way too formal?).  ANyway, nominations are 95% done, and we are waiting for an opening to start the awards....the awards are for the 6 months that spanded from August 2002 to Janurary 2003, so all Februrary parodies will not be eligable for these awards, except in the few awards catagories that encompass all parodies (ie. Best Phil Alexander parody, Best Bohemian Rhapsody parody), and those are only open up til today.  Since award control has changed hands, some catorgories have changed.  Junior was planning on a catorgory for best Sk8tr boi parody, but Mike and I have determined that at this time an award based upon this song is unneeded, for numorous reasons...1, being that there arent enough worthy competeters at this time (I didnt say enough parodies, I said COMPETETERS); 2, since everyone is sick of this song and parodies  of it at this time, a catorgory based of it would just make fuel for more parodies; and 3, it was just too many awards.  If everyone is alright with this change, the Sk8r boi parody awards will be reschedualed for the Summer awards (If Mike and I choose administer it...Junior will have the say for that)..other than that, there are a few new catorgories being put into this show.  There will be a Best Computer parody catorgory, a best Iraq/Saddam parody catorgory as well as my brainchild, a best parody from Whatfreaks award.

Some of the upcoming catorgories (but not all) are as follows:

Best Bohemian Rhapsody parody
Best parody of pop artist (Making fun of them)
Breakthrough parody artist
Best parody artist of last 6 months
Best sports parody
Best duet of last 6 months
Best lebeiw15 parody
best Phil Alexander parody
Best Tonedef parody

and more to come

(Billy's note: On my original nominations sheet, of which I wrote what I thought needed to be nominated into certain catorgories I had ideas for Best Jim A parody, and best Mike Armstrong parody, and the such..we didnt make those catorgories, but the nominees have been filltered into others..so theres a hint for you)

Other than that, i think thats it....IF they are any objections, or questions or anything, either post them in this thread, or PM them to me (Dont PM them to Mike becuase he cant access them)..Other than that I hope that the NEW Amiright awards will go over well....and SOON

PS:  William TOng, I know that you dont have a user account, so I cant PM you, but I need to speak to you about nomination of parodies of yours..If you could PM me, it would be helpful..thank you

Billy/Mike

How are nominations being handled, i.e. to create a shortlist on which to vote?

So this is going to be more like the Parody Olymics instead of the Idol bit? (Winter events, fall events...) I just suppose this will happen more than once every four years?

well, this is how we did it.  Mike got Junior's list of what catorgories there were...we then proceded to use the new feature at Amiright (the parodies entered by date thing) and went through every parody from August 2002 to Janurary 2003..we made a list of what parodies needed to get nominated for something (to be placed in catorgories later) and ones that were directly placed in catorgories.  Now to be completely honest, I didnt read every parody fro in between that time (it would have taken me forever), and Michael didnt either Im sure, but I figured out that I seem to remember alot of the parodies that came out in that period, and didnt need to re-read them....
For catorgories such as "Best Bo Rhap" parody, we just typed in Bohemian Rhapsody in the search function.

Does that anser your question?

thats right, you werent here for the first time we did this...in July/August Junior made the first Amiright Awards..he picked the catorgories and nominees and we all voted on the winners.  Junior decided that this would be a bi-yearly thing, once in Janurary, and once in July.  A few weeks ago, Junior decided that he could not run the awards this time, so he gave control of them over to Mike.  We intend to run the award exactly like Junior did, and continue the bi-yearly tradition (that hasnt really been started yet)....

In part: I was wondering if you'd be nominating a subset of those available.  For example, in the Bo Rhap category there's 26 songs at the moment - which I guess is manageable; but in my favourite ;-) "best Phil Alexander parody" there's 116, which is an awful lot of parodies to read through (but hey, guys, it's worth it!)

Here's a suggestion

Either a Hall of Fame should be made

or on the AmIRight Awards, you should have a Lifetime Achievement Award

Tong is a very good candidate
Along with you (Billy), Mike, DarkJon, and Junior
