Subject: voting results page

Written By: Tone-Def on 04/13/03 at 11:19 a.m.

since we're getting well over 100 new songs a week on amiright now instead of the 10 or so i think it got at the start i think its probably time to increase the amount of songs that get some sort of recognition. My proposal is to keep the 10 for each on the main page and have a link for top 25 for weekly and top 50 for monthly like there's a link for top 100 for overall. I think that nowadays the 25th song of each week has good enough voting results to have been easily top 5 during the summer.

Well, last week there was 177 entries and this week had 152 new parodies (and you wonder why I take the weekends off from approving new entries). It should probably be easy to increase the number of parodies tracked for the weekly and monthly..

weekly though, I'm not sure if it's really necessary yet.. it still only takes about 10-15 decent votes to get into the top ten.. I'd say if a parody hasn't received that many votes yet, the numbers aren't really interesting yet..

over the last couple of weeks I've had weekly totals  of 4.8 for 9 votes (master of the outs) 4.7 for 9 votes (every broth I make) 4.6 for 7 votes (burning calories) something like 4.3 for 13 (amiright scandals) and 4.5 for 13 votes (euclidian rhapsody). all of those would have been top 5 candidates during the summer yet none of them made any chart (even though i have some hope for euclidian rhapsody). That is why i think the charts need to be expanded.

Tone-Def and ChuckyG:
Thank you for working out an enhancement that appears to be something that will benefit many of us parody writers.  Of course, one thing that a lot of us need to do is VOTE.  It seems like there are many good parodies that only get 5 or 6 votes.  And if there are more people submitting parodies, there should be more voters, too.

no... my spare time last week, and this week, is being focused on my 80s trivia book.. I've got some very tedious proof checking for some background data I've been compiling, and I want to finish it as soon as possible so I can begin doing more interesting work.

It'll probably be a couple weeks before I do any web work at all.. though once I start, there will most likely be a ton of new stuff on amiright, and maybe my new site will begin to take shape too

just wondering if and when the voting results will be expanded since merry and pippin are currently pulling a william tong and making a top 10 song nearly impossible

Have to admit that M&P are writing some superb parodies, which IMO deserve their high ratings: it'll be interesting to see how long they can keep up the same high standard...

Thank you Phil, for your kind feedback  :)

Yours is an interesting question I have been wondering myself  :-/

I've got a final project due Thursday, which is what I'm going to focus on for the next couple days.. I just finished my other class last night. I've got a week between classes, so I'll probably try doing it then.. it's funny, but I thought being unemployed would give me more free time, not less.

Seems like chucky is better with priorities than I am. I wrote two parodies this morning before starting my thousand word paper in spanish thats due ASAP

Yes, thank-you Phil! Good question! The problem with being so successful at the start is trying to keep that success. We've already put out a number of parodies over the past couple of months that I thought were kind of second-rate, but they were reasonably well received anyway and a couple did quite well. I can never quite get a handle on what is going to go over well and what isn't... :-/

chucky, is there a chance you're going to find time to expand the voting results before your classes start again or should i just give up hope for that happening anytime soon?

I'm not sure.. there's a potential job lined up for me next week, for the next three months.. I may not get it, but if I do, I certainly will not have as much free time. I've already scaled back the number of classes I was planning on taking as a result.

That being said however, I should have the time this week to do it.. there's been a lot of stuff I've had to do in my personal life the past week, so I haven't had as much free time as I'd like, but I should be able to get to it..

I know it's a requested feature, but I also have bugs to track down, problems with the new performances section for instance, and validating parodies is really slow right now due to a bug I fixed a couple weeks ago. Unless I get distracted tomorrow, I should be able to fix some urgent stuff, and possibly this as well.
