Subject: One question

Well last night I was pondering, what my life would be like if amiright never existed, then I thought of what would happon if it shut down...so I got one question, i dont know if it makes me look dumb for asking but, will Amiright.com ever shut down?

Man I hope not.  Parody writing has become a hobby for me!  I mean, my life would still go on without amIright, and I guess I could still write parodies, but there would be no where to submit them (at least not a site as well-organized and friendly as this).

anything is possible, nothing lasts forever after all..

the RIAA is stepping up its legal efforts against lyrics websites. The size of my site, despite the fact that what I do is considered parody and fair use (snippets of misheard lyrics and such), might someday tempt them into needlessly chasing after me. It's why I'm a big fan of the EFF, I know there's somewhere to turn to when I need a good lawyer.

I always recommend backing up your parodies just in case something beyond my control happens. Heck, to quote Homer Simpson, "People die all the time, just like that. Why, you could wake up dead tomorrow! Well, good night". I do make a monthly back up CD-R, so if my hosting went away suddenly, I could always resurect the website. I have also off-site stored some of the older backups "just in case". Matter of fact, Terry Parish asked me for an old parody tonight, which I still had in an old backup, despite having removed all his parodies from the site over two years ago.

I've toyed with the thought of instructing a friend or two to take the backup gzipped tarballs and put them on an FTP site somewhere for people to grab if I do "pass on" unexpectedly, just so the site doesn't totally evaporate. (Not just amiright, but all my sites). The compressed backups are like 100 megs a piece for amiright, inthe80s and inthe00s, so it's probably not even pratical for that anymore.

As for plans to shut down at some point, I have none. As far as I'm concerned, this can go on for as long as the Internet exists. I only began a website because my BBS was no longer busy due to the Internet. If something else replaces the Internet I'll probably start doing whatever that is, and try and repurpose the websites accordingly.

I certainly hope it does not ever go away - It isn't just a parody site to me, but a way to sustain friendships - I would be lost without it at this point... :'(

I agree...out of all the time I spend online, about 80% of it is at either amiright or the messege boards...but after I read what Chuck said, I dont need to worry as much anymore...

I hope Amiright never shuts down...there is no other place on the internet that I could submit parodies to like this...Id keep on wirting..I wrote parodies befre amiright, Ill write them after as well ....

but yet this brings another question to my mind....copyrights...I noticed that ont he bottom of every page it has a copyright....does that mean that our parodies are copyrighted to amiright, or just the sites design is copyrigted, or what?  this would be nice to know in case some A**hole decides to steal one of our parodies and records it and tries to pass it off as his own....

www.amiright.com can live on forever.  All we have to do is develop an artificial intelligence model based on Chucky  8) , along with that new "self healing" server software that IBM is hawking.  :P

So... "AMIRIGHT will go on and on!"

(Hey there might be a parody there. Heh heh...  ;D

Chucky claims himself in the legaleze that all lyrics ARE property of their owner, and, as such, nothing is wrong with what he's doing.

I don't know where I'd be without this place after all...

of course, I'm not a lawyer, but my limited understanding of copyright law leads me to believe that's all that's really needed. Filling paperwork with the copyright office will help insure a minimum payout if someone violates your copyright, but it's still very hard to prosecute.
