Subject: I Was Wondering...

I think it's been discussed before, but what if Weird Al submitted his parodies here (of course under a different name so we would have no idea it was him)?  What kind of ratings would he get?  Do you think he would get 2s and 3s?  Of course performed parodies like his deserve much more credit, he does them so well and everything, but I'm just talking about the lyrics and stuff, and the pacing... just thought it would be interesting.

I brought this up a while ago and i don't think it got resolved at all. In my opinion he might run into major voting trouble on several accounts. First of all i dont think he pays as much attention to match up his lines syllable for syllable with the original like we do. Amish paradise would probably get a good deal of ones in pacing because some verses are switched around and he throws in part of the gilligans island song which might throw people completely off. Secondly his songs are often way too long for the attention span of a lot of the voters on this site. Thirdly, he generally does parodies to new songs and nowadays here thats not a good idea if ratings are your only goal. I just double checked the voting results and the song which is barely on there, written by me, parodies the most recent song out of any of them and this "recent" song is from 1984.

It depends on the song

I kinda refered to this before, but certain Weird Al songs are garbage (in my opinion)....I cant stand "the saga begins" (I think thats its name)...and if I ever read something like that here, id givew it all ones...Amish paradise is my favorite song from him, and if someone disregarded the pacing it would get 4s or 5s, but unfortunatly, Al doesnt pace it well, and he would get ones....Eat it would get 5s for pacing and probably 3s or 4s for funny.....same with Fat and Living with a hernia.....Smells like nirvana would get 4s or 5s...my bongna probably would get 4s or 5s...same with Another one rides the bus (though neither of those are THAT funny)..I dont know.....in the past years I dont know why Al did some of the parodies he did....and I wish more people know "Pretty fly for a Rabbi" ...lol

The thing is that Weird Al performs his stuff to a truly wonderful standard: I've noted on many occasions that the songs of mine that are well received by an audience are not those which get the most (or best) votes; similarly, there's a lot of parodies that get very high scores that wouldn't work well as performance pieces.  I reckon if Weird Al were writing explicitly for amiright, he'd be writing slightly different (and probably killer) songs

Having said that, IMO "Smells like Nirvana" would need an extra option for 6s - "And I forgot the next verse/Oh well, I guess it pays to rehearse" makes me crack up every time :-)... "The Saga Begins" is extremely clever, if not laugh-out-loud funny: I knew the song verbatim before I saw Episode I, so I knew pretty much what was going to happen...
