do you mean "Solitary man"?  The only song called "Solitaire" that I know is by Deep purple, who coinsidently covered Neil Diamonds "Kentucky woman"

Melinda was mine
Til the time
That I found her
Holding Jim
Loving Him

Then Sue came along
Loved me strong
That's what I thought
Me and Sue
But that died too

Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
The girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man

I've had it to here
Bein' where
Love's a small word
Part-time thing
Paper ring

I know it's been done
Havin' one
Girl who'll love me
Right or wrong
Weak or strong

Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
The girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man

No...he wrote a song called Solitaire. Clay Aiken sang it in American Idol.

Hi wdh,

If it's the same "Solitaire" which the Carpenters recorded, then I can help you out.

Wow I read the lyrics.  Looks like another candidate for the "Self gratification lyrics" list, although it is not a 1980's tune.  :P

Must everything be about self-gratification?  'Cuz' you know, the Carpenters were sooo into making that kind of statement back in '75.

Other artists who've covered the song....Shirley Bassey, Elvis Presley, Andy Williams, Sheryl Crow, Johnny Mathis...all folks whom you would normally associate with being "Masters of their own domain."
