Subject: No more parodies about other parody authors...

Written By: ChuckyG on 06/16/03 at 05:36 p.m.

The Merry&Pippin thing has run it's course, and people are finding the "no attack parodies" rule a little confusing as a result. It's easier to just enforce the rule as "no attack parodies about other parody authors".  In general, if you don't follow the site on a regular basis, I'm sure the parodies about other parody authors, appear pretty meaningless.

Yeah, I noticed that the submission rules page has been altered.  It used to be "no attack parodies about other authors" but now it says "no parodies about other parody authors" period.  Which is a bummer, no more tributes.  Oh well, fun while it lasted :)

We can still write parodies attacking public figures, right? otherwise the site submission rate will go waaaaaay down

It's already gonna go waaaaay down without the Malcolm parodies about Merry and Pippin... but he better keep writing more parodies like "Blood Bank"  :)

and i was going to do one about Rice and Watt :(

i mean, what if it's in a positive light? tributes are nice, it's like: you're good enough and popular enough so here's something nice for you.

oh well...:'(

you know, my biggest concerns are this:

1) Parodies about other parody authors, only appeal to other parody authors. This means, anyone who isn't a site regular, doesn't get it.

2) Legal issue (isn't that what things always come down to). Parodies attacking private individuals could be considred slander. It's ok to critisize public officials in the name of parody.

Tribute parodies are ok I guess, so long as things don't get out of hand. I'm trying not to make the site too clique-ish.

ok quick question.  am working on a song i call "Writer's Block" a parody to eminem "hailies song", but on the line i start to rap heres the first two lines:

Man and if I could write, I'd keep writing just like William Tong
If I could think the thoughts, I'd have close to five hundred songs

is this ok.  am, not bashing him since he's on top of the list.  and i think any new person that comes here and clicks the link should get it.  its not that hard

one more thing, I take it updating "amiright rhapsody" and submitting it would be considered a parody about other authors, right?
