Subject: Bauhaus

Written By: BauBabe on 06/25/03 at 08:10 a.m.

I'm very new to this site and I was wondering if anyone has heard of the late 1970's gothic band Bauhaus. They are English. If you have GREAT! I need your help, I don't really understand the English lingo and I don't really understand what the song "She's In Parties" is about. If anyone has any idea please, please help a confused girl and make her not feel so confused. Thank you all very much.  Amanda

I think its about an actress and the after filming celebrations.  "It's in the can" meaning they've finished filming. There's some other film phrases as well.  Of course I could be completely wrong on this.

Thank you VERY much! I appreciate that you took the time out to write to me, even if, as you say, you are not quite sure.

That's pretty much what I thought--- just going by the lyrics, and knowing that there are "wrap parties" after filming.  I found a site with the original handwritten lyrics where "parties" is capitalized and spelled "Party's".  Still, I can't help but wonder if "in parties" means something similar to "in cups" (which means 'drunk').

Or they couldn't spell properly?

I always did think it was bad grammar.

I thought it meant that she could go to parties now she's a 'celebrity'

I know Bauhaus' music pretty well- I think you're right in taking the song at more or less face value, a lot of their songs are written on fairly obscure subjects but very few have much 'hidden meaning' to them. As for the motivation behind these subjects, I'm as mystified as you- but have loved their music for years. Ever remember when they used to have 'Kick in the eye' on the Maxell adverts? I was never quite sure whether it was actually Pete Murphy who appeared in these ads, can anyone shed any light on this at all? Anyway, good to speak to a fellow Bauhaus fan- cool! (I'd add a Gothic smiley but there doesn't seem to be one- bit of a contradiction in terms anyway, eh??)

I am fairly certain it was him.  We were all convinced it was him when I was at school.  Didn't think they used 'Kick in the Eye' music though.  Thought it was 'classical' stuff possibly from Holsts Planet Suite.

I may well have been confused by hearing a live recording of 'Kick in the eye' where Pete says 'Maxell, break the sound barrier' during the intro, 'tis a long time since I saw the ad & my brain cell has become fuddled with the mists of time...  :P
