Subject: Parody Survivor round 3

Written By: Tone-Def on 08/01/03 at 09:35 p.m.

This one is due in three weeks, but that is no reason to procrastinate. I'm giving you a very long time because of the length requirement of this round, which is 600 words. Which is very long. A song like master of the house from les miserables is a close call (my parody of that song is 631 words not counting the indications of who is singing) You won't be disqualified if your song is 590 words but you need to get it in the general range. There are very few non-rap songs that meet this requirement, which is why i suggest you try to parody a rap song for this round. The word limit is enough there are no other restrictions.

Excellent.  I'm going on vacation soon and I was afraid of missing a deadline or something.  Now, I know that I'm okay.  And what are you talking about, of course I'll procrastinate ::) ;D

I've got 574 in the original, probably more in the parody, will that work?

Just so happened I had two long parodies part-finished: the first (My Brain Is.... Still Hazy) is going to take ages to finish as I have to keep playing the original through to get the feel of the words: this rap stuff ain't really my game.

Another source of long, wordy, songs is, of course Gilbert and Sullivan... this one is kind of inspired by Dogbert, and called The Business Analyst's Song to the tune of the Major-General's Song.  With a judicious insertion of another four lines, it came to exactly 600 words.

I knew I should have listened to my gut feeling and saved "Flip the bird" till there was 25 verses instead of 20. :-)

When the idea to it came I was still on 18-20 songs or something like that, and the idea of having 25 verses for my 25:th song seemed kinda suitable, but proved to hard. (And I came up with a parody called "25 lyrics today" instead).

Guess I canīt complain though, itīs my only #1 hit so far, even if it was only on top in two categories and for one day. :-)

 // Snaggie

In other words: Can I pleabargain it down to 600 letters? :-)

Fsshhhht... Houston, we have a problem...

I'm going to be on holiday from 16th to 30th August, and I doubt there's going to be a computer within twenty miles (except my laptop, of course, but I doubt there'll be a phone line anywhere close, either)

What's the voting deadline (not to mention the round 4 entry one)?

Ok you're all in luck - because phil is going on vacation and can't vote on the wewekend after it's due the deadline for the third round is being pushed to august 29th. A couple of more things in case they're not clear... the song has to have been written after the round was announced and if you didn't pass round 2 you can't be in round 3.

Hi ya all!

This is the parody artist formerly known as "Snaggletoth". Iīm writing this to announce that I have a new nickname here: "Know 1 can hear you dream", "K1chyd" for short as the full version doesnīt fit into the box on the profile side, and since itīs an abbreviation Iīm already used to anyway. Itīs my favourite internet alias and now that this place more and more grows to be my favourite internet site I really wanted to replace the old name, that I just grabbed from my email addy when I posted my first parodies here.

"Know 1 can hear you dream": When you pronounce that phrase it means the opposite thing of what it means when you see it in writing. That is a kind of double entendre I like to come up with and I strive to include puns like that in my lyrics, as well as in all my writings.

Big thanx to Chucky (Thanx!), whoīve taken a bunch of his few free minutes to fix this.

Iīm right about to post my first parody under this new name. Itīs called "I donīt wanna be in this temporal cold war", to the tune of Depeche Modeīs "Blasphemous rumours". Check for it tomorrow, a little story about the downsides of being a soldier when warfare includes time travels and ditto alterations.

As for the current AmIRight survivor contest I hope that there will be no big confusion because of this name change. There shouldnīt be, now that I have posted this announcement in itīs current round thread, right?

In other words. If itīs still on, Iīm still in. Iīm working on a parody that right now seems to gonna land somewhere between 650-700 words, so even if I squeeze in some longer words during the upcoming weekends final polishing, I should have a margin.

Unless someone goes back in time and shortens the original. (Better not tell what song it is to yet). :-)

END RANT TRANSMISSION

Okkies, now itīs official, I have written my third round entry to the tune of that genrewise uncategoriesable surprise hit from the late 90s; Baz Luhrmannīs "Everybodyīs Free (To wear sunscreen).

My parody version is called: "Write parodies":

Three reasons why its good you submitted now and it would've been better sooner

1)Your song looked a bit short so i checked and its about 50 words short...2) I think this is more of a whatfreaks song than an amiright song... 3) A lot of the contestants in this contest probably don't know the original song and i'm not going to force anyone to download "magic stick" since it's  more offensive than your parody.

That said i strongly recommend you try again you still have a couple of days.

by the way i'm the one running this contest i just changed to my real name

oh, i guess u'd be the one that gave me 1's on the song. it's nice to see that people on the site are so supportive of the hard work that people put into the work they create. certainly when it comes from someone that is running a competion where they are givin the freedom to do any kind of song that they want. ya know I don't say stuff about your songs so why u gotta talk about mine? I never asked your opinion. if u don't like my song I'm not gonna kill myslef. if somebody doesn't know magic stick then they probably don't know crazy in love which I did my other songs to and I'm still in the competition today. I know that u didn't drop out of my rap group due to " a lack of organization" so if u contiune to have a problem with ME, lets take it up somewhere else.

Blo-town,

i'm sorry you're upset i actually didn't vote on the song... i thought parts of it were very well written but my biggest problem was it the word count was way too low no one else was anywhere near that far off... i was trying to do you a favor by letting you know why i thought you have a good chance of being eliminated with that song. If you can't think of anything to write now, which is very understandable that's why i gave all of you so much time to write it, then make that your official entry and hope for the best. And about the rap group, i think the only way one of those can possibly work is if the parody verses are done in the same order as the original verses otherwise people might say things completely unrelated to the rest of the song or repeat things that were already said.

ok i'm just going to apologize for my first comment to blo-town. First of all, I should've made it more clear what constituted the ballpark of 600 but i didn't so a 550 word song gets no penalty. Also since i get a bit frustrated sometimes about how parodies to old songs seem to do so much bettyer on the site than parodies of new songs lately i have no right to criticize someone for submitting a parody to an actual current hit song. And even though magic stick doesn't exactly have a great message i think the youngest contestant is in 9th grade so it won't hurt anyone to listen to it.  Also, bathroom humor is risky but considering some of the songs malcolm higgins has submitted here it' really not all that bad. Next time i have doubts like i did about an entry i'll think a bit more before saying something about it and if i do i'll just send a private message

So sorry, but I just don't think this is going to work for me.  I've tried at different parodies and they just haven't been working, and, well, it looks like I'm out of time, and even if the deadline was extended, I won't have a lot of time anymore anyway to do this.  So, best of luck to the others participating.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa...well, I couldn't do a 600 worder, but I did manage to scrape up a parody since the last round.  I hope funnyness can win me some "hey that guy sended his in late but lets cut him some slack because he made a funny FedEx song" points.

So, with IebeiW15 throwing in the towel, shall we still vote among the remaining 5 of us, or just move on to the next round.

Either way, I guess the next subject could be given if it has been decided upon.  8)

Ooops! It already has been announced. I somehow missed that. The top threads in the forum seemed to be the same as last I looked. Sorry ībout taking up valuable electrons like this but I guess the immediate punishment is to get started one day late.
