I use WinAmp's Disk Writer plug-in to convert from MP3

..the WinAmp DeFX plug-in to devocalise if I can't find a karaoke version through Kazaa (though this sometimes ruins the music, it's been pretty good for most of them)

n-track for the multi-layered recordings... you need a full duplex sound card if you're going to be able to listen and sing at the same time, but almost any recent one will do: I've got a SoundBlaster Live, which is reasonable and pretty cheap. You can download a 30-day evaluation of n-track, though it took me about that time (at a couple of evenings a week) to get the hang of using it properly - I registered it, it's a very worthwhile bit of kit.

I record mine through a mixing board onto a tape, then I take a double ended audio chord, and put one end into my tape players headphones jack, and the other end into my computers microphone jack then I go to sound recorder and record the song. Then I compress it down to mp3 format have my buddy josh (web editor) load it up to the site, then I submit the songs here at amiright!
