Subject: AMIRIGHT AWARDS Aug 2003 Round 1

Written By: Billy_Florio on 09/06/03 at 10:26 p.m.

yes, finally, round one for the bi-annual Amright Awards is up...ok, here for the newcomers and all is the explaination....In July of 2002, Junior came up with the idea to have a bi-annual Amright awards contest, in which the parodies of the last six months would get highlighted (as well, as some from the whole site)....In Janurary 2003, Junior handed the awards over to Mike Florio, who then enlisted my help to get the nominations and totaling done....THis is our second run at it.....If there are any questions, post them in this thread, and one of us will answer them.....DO NOT POST YOUR VOTES IN THIS THREAD!  Send all of your votes to:  amirightawards@yahoo.com  These awards are for the months of Feburary 2003 to July 2003..therefore, the August awards....This is round one, there will be round two, with more catorgories and songs next week....

I'm wondering if there is a category for tv show parody, that's one of the only things I could qualify for.

there is a TV catorgory, but I think youre stuff is too recent (if it came out in August or later it does qualify for these awards)

When round 2 is up, will it still be possible to vote for round 1? Is there a deadline? I´m thinking the weekend/sunday would be better for me to do this than squeese it in between keeping track of new submissions (and some damn homework) and all.

it's a much better title than "there' no tumors like brain tumors"... but i think it was submitted too recently for recognition here. My "Sesame Street Binge Song (eating cookies)" was written and submitted in April so i have no idea how "tumors" beat that 1.
but i am beating merry and pippin right now 2 nominations to one so i guess i cant complain too much

i have 2 sports/game parodies with voting totals of at least 4.5 for ten votes(even though 1 might be to recent). But there are several thousand parodies submitted in the last 6 month so nominations are kinda hard to get

Are you saying that there are not enough nominations, or not enough categories? Because if you are talking about the latter, keep in mind this is only Round 1 - more categories will be revealed soon.

now wait a minute...I thought "thers no tumors like brian tumors" was a funny title....just funny because its so..well, a not funny subject...anyway, there was something else done, that yor seasame street binge song wasnt nominated for that...I dont know if this was right or not, but because there are so many niminees, we didnt really put songs that were nominated for other awards in the funny title catorgory unless they really deserved it.......there were so many, it just would have been, well, harder on us lol

Well i get that. But my understanding is that these catagories in the 1st round are for that 3 month time frame, and the 2nd round will be for the next 3 months after that (if i got it wrong please correct me). The first round just seems somewhat limited for how many songs that came out during that duration of time.

I think all the rounds will encompass the whole six-month time frame from February to July.  They just split them into rounds so that people don't have to look at too many categories when they vote...I guess it's for ease of voting or something.

yes, the majority of these awards all encompensate for the 6 months that fall into this time slot.....we do them this way because its easier for people voting (so we dont throw too mucha t them at once) and its easier for us putting it together....

and , as Jeff said, there will be more than two rounds (in the past we had I think 5, and Junior had like 6 before that....Im trying ot lower it to like 4 at most)

Im glad to see that the awards are doing what they are suppose to, and are getting some songs noticed that some people looked over at first.....I read a bunch of replys on parodies that were like "wow, how did I miss this one at first, great job" and "Catching up on stuff nominated for the amiright awards, great job" etc.....
