Subject: My 200th Parody

Written By: philbo_baggins on 09/30/03 at 08:21 a.m.

I've finally succumbed and done a Bo Rap parody... and I'm kind of pleased with the way it's turned out, as a retelling of the Iliad.. sort of highlights only, of course.

But I wanted to do something a bit special, and if you happen to be studying the Trojan war at school - why not include it as part of your project?

Anyway, it's here: Homerian Rhapsody

I was going to call it "Homerian Odyssey", but I'm sure someone would have pointed out that Homer's Odyssey was the sequel...

Congrats!

I don't remember if I left a comment or not, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn't about Homer Simpson and I thought you did an excellent job with it.  It was such a nice change of pace.  :)

I'm always a little impressed when someone tackles B.R., because it's one of the three songs I've wanted and tried to parody, but have found too intimidating, thus far.  (The other two, if you're curious, are Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and Tool's "Forty Six and Two.")

Congrats again!  I look forward to reading the next 200!

It's relatively easy to write a Bo Rap parody, but it's hard to write one which measures up - it was a real eureka moment when my daughter and I were talking about the Trojan war, and I realised it was the perfect subject matter: it pretty much wrote itself in about twenty minutes, with a synopsis of the story as a reference: I do try and keep my parodies as accurate as possible.

I don't know the Tool song, but I've often considered "War Pigs", but haven't had a suitable or workable idea as yet...

Give me a year or two... or four ;-)

I'm quite tempted to try some more educational parodies - I've done a few sort-of educational ones, historical and technical, but I'd like to do a humourous revision guide, something that is actually useful for students, to be finished ideally before my children need them...

Congratulations!

I'm ashamed to say i've only read 1 of the 200 you've done, and that was the one you sent  :-/

I really should make more of an effort to explore this site fully!

Still having no luck with the JC ringtone though  :'(
