Subject: I removed the decade designation on parodies

Written By: ChuckyG on 10/03/03 at 10:30 p.m.

Too many stupid complaints about wether a parody belongs in the 90s or the 2000s...  The parody index will probably also change to a strictly artist based listing in the future, but that's a little more involved, so I don't know when I'll get around to that..

I'm also chaning the "Originally By" to "Based on the performance by" which is more inline with what I meant when I wrote that.. some people need everything spelt out for them based on some of the comments being left on parodies lately..

Great news!  This will hopefully eliminate some of the irrelevant commentary in the comments sections  :D  Thanks Chuck.

If you see any really stupid decade complaints, feel free to report them as "inappropriate" and I'll deal with them.. it's clear there's a small group of individuals who can't comment on anything else about a parody, and feel a need to nitpick it to death, so I'm all too happy to remove their comments at this point

I echo Pippin's sentiments.  Great moves, both.  Thanks Chucky!

That's a good idea, Chuck.  Hey, what's with the rash of wierd postings where the lyrics appear where the parody titles should be?  Just look at today's submittal, as an example:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/blindedbythelight0.shtml

It doesn't even have the author's name listed.

I wish I knew what was causing this.. I've been removing the parody from the site when it does, hoping the author resubmits.. it's like the site is losing a field on me when it writes out the data, but it doesn't appear to be following a pattern.. I'm going to have to look closer at this, since it appears to be happening more often..

Just a quick thought here: At another forum that I used to visit very regullarly before I found this place we had a problem with something we came to call crosspostings. Basically the problem was that if 2 people submitted something within the same second, it became a 50-50 chance that both submission would end up under the wrong thread rather than the right one.

Maybe some timing thingie like that is behind this too?

I don't think so, I use lockfiles to prevent the same file from being accessed at the same time.. I think this is something else

CG - So glad you removed the decades thing and changed the artist from original to based on performance.  I really hate that nitpicking as well.  Who cares as long as the reader can identify the song.  What really gets my goat is someone commenting that they knock off a point for getting it as they say 'wrong' or giving a point for knowing the real original artist.  This is not in the voting criteria and is just irratating to see.  Like you said - some need to have everything spelled out and cannot seem to grasp the concept of spirit and intent.  Thanks!

That also was a relief to me not to really sweat the decade, because somebody would either say it was wrong anyway or something else irrelevant, like the 1st recorded instance...blah, blah... ::)  Thanks!!

Thank you so much for doing that.

However, some of the parody URL's will probably always contain incorrect information; there's probably nothing anyone can do about that. Oh well  :-X
