Subject: need help!

I heard this song on the radio in 1989 when I was a student at UT and have never heard it since.  It has been driving me nuts for years.  I know some of the lyrics are as below:

"At first we were friends, now we're enemies...facts, familiar faces again.  I can't see an end to this ... we seek (?)...to of which people say we tend.

...find your gaze, they damn me with faint praise.  And in your sublist of sublists, you may find that it pays...

If my...could...familiar faces again...

Refrain:  Heard it all now, heard it all now, heard it so loud...

It's changed; it's different now.  Seasons come and go and nobody told me--how it gets different now while the world disowns me. {poverty??} now can be compared to a rainbow; hour after hour by the phone and the window."

If anyone can give me some leads, that would help a lot.
