Subject: I told you once, I told you twice...

Can anyone help with a song that came out around 1979?  The film clip featured the band in wide boy/spiv/20s gangster suits, and the lyrics went:

"I told you once, I told you twice, I even tried to tell you nice.

I told once, twice, three times and that's enough"

For Aussies, it was on the episode of Countdown that Molly also reviewed The Who's The Kids Are Alright, and I think the band were British.

I can't believe that this has bugged me every now and again for 25 years now!

It sounds a bit like "I didn't mean to turn you on" by Robert Palmer.

Thanks, Cat, but that's not quite it.

it also sounds a little like the Rolling Stones "The last time"
