Subject: So Much in Love

Written By: franky on 02/28/04 at 10:19 p.m.

In the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High there is a song that says:  "So in love, so in love, in love with you.  As we walk alone together".   It isn't the original version.  Does anyone know who sings this and where I can find it?

are you talking about the Tymes version?

Yeah, that looks like "So Much In Love" to me. It was originally performed by the Tymes in the 60s, but All-4-One covered it 10 years ago.

Wow! I'm really surprised that no one here knew this. Yes, the original was a #1 smash here in the U.S. for The Tymes in the Summer of '63. But the cover of "So Much in Love" heard in the 1982 film, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", was by Timothy B. Schmit (former member of Poco and the Eagles). Released as a single from the movie, his version was a moderate hit in the Fall of '82. It was included on the 1982 soundtrack, which is still in print on CD here in the U.S. The song was also later added to Schmit's 1984 solo album, Playin' it Cool. Unfortunately, that album has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. I have the cassette myself...

Thanks for all the replies.  I went to a music place and heard the Tymes version that y'all suggested but it wasn't the one I was looking for.  One of the older guys working in the store told me that the version I was probably looking for was one by Charles Givings and the Rare Gems.  Sure enough, that's the exact one I wanted.  That was the song I would hear when cruising down Military Drive in the 80s.

The band Orchestral Manoevers in the Dark (OMD) had a single So in love that has lyrics similar to these.

I know, but it was a different song; it had a different melody. Lots of times there are songs that have the same title but are different tunes altogether.
