Good question. There are many songs (in the 60s,70s,80s,90s and even 2000s) that have good lyrics. Many songs.

Some early examples I can think of...

Golden Time of Day - Maze/Frankie Beverly (1978 )

...there's a time of the day when the sun is going down
that's the golden time of day
it's a time that the sun turns a gold all around
that's the golden time of day
at the end of the day when the wind is soft and warm
don't it make the flowers sway

when the sun settles down and it takes a lovley form
that's the golden time of day

people let me tell you
there's a time in your life when you find who you are
that's the golden time of day...

--------
Everybody Plays The Fool - Main Ingredient (1972 )

...how can you help it
when the music starts to play
and your ability to
reason is swept away

heaven on earth is all you see
you`re out of touch with reality
and now you cry but when you`re through
next time around someone cries for you

everybody plays the fool sometime...

--------
For Once In My Life - Stevie Wonder (1968 )

...for once in my life
I have someone who needs me
someone I needed so long
for once unafraid
I can go where life leads me
and somehow I know I'll be strong

for once I can touch
what my heart used to dream of
long before I knew
someone like you
would ever dream of makin' my dreams come true

for once in my life
I won't let sorrow hurt me
not like it's hurt me before...

--------
Vincent - Don McLean (1972 )

...but still, your love was true
and when no hope was left inside
on that starry, starry night
you took your life
as lovers often do

but I could have told you, Vincent
this world was never meant
for one as beautiful as you

starry, starry night...
----------
If you want others...

:D

They took you out into the street and kicked you in the brains,
So you walked back in through a bolted door and did it all again..."

God called in sick today by AFI

When routine bites hard, and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high, but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again --
Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed - our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again --
You cry out in your sleep - all my failings expose
There's a taste in my mouth, as desperation takes hold
Just that something so good just can't function no more
When love, love will tear us apart again
Love will tear us apart by JOY DIVISION

I've got loads more...but best not go on any longer.

I've always loved:
