Subject: "Ticket to Ride"

Written By: Michael McCartney on 6/6/2001 at 7:13 p.m.

Regarding your otherwise hilarious "Misheard Lyrics", I must take issue with "Ticket to Ride", where you state that:

*** 'Ticket to Ride' is actually sung 'Ticket to Rye' as in, a city in England. The Beatles cut the record, it was confusing to U.S. audiences, the record execs changed the title and lyrics. The song was never re-recorded. Listen carefully--You hear NO 'd' sound in the word. Thus, Rye *isn't* a misheard lyric. This is according to [NOTED BEATLES HISTORIAN - NOT!! - sorry for screaming...] Casey Kasem

*** This is absolute rubbish! According to Paul McCartney, who oughta know (as described in his authorised 2000 biography "Many Years from Now"), the song germinated from memories of weekends spent with John Lennon at Paul's cousin's pub in the town of RYDE, where they once performed calling themselves "The Nurk Twins." Hence, the lyric "Ticket to ride" IS correct - except for spelling.
