Subject: Midnight Train

A response.

I have a response to Tom Radigan on this post:

Gladys Knight and the Pips', "Midnight Train to Georgia"

The Inappropriate Lyrics:

I'd rather live with him in his world, Than without him in mine.

Why They're Inappropriate: These lines (which in themselves make little sense) have nothing to do with the rest of the song, which is about a man who had left home with dreams of making the big time, only to come back home after failing to do so. Worse yet, these lines are repeated numerous times, spoiling an otherwise good song.

I think you're missing the point, bro. Those lines make perfect sense from the singer's perspective: she is saying is that she'd rather dump the L.A. life she shared with him to move back with him to Georgia than to live without him on the West Coast. It's about a guy who is disenchanted with the West Coast music biz (it's not that he didn't make it, it's just killing him) and he moves back to his original home, where life is much simpler and less cut-throat. She laments his leaving and places being with him at a higher priority than having her music career. Love trumps money / career.

The question - would a guy do that for a woman in the same situation??? You ladies know the answer.
