Subject: Ray Stevens: Cannonball (Cannonball Run theme, 1981)

Written By: Foo Bar on 02/21/06 at 10:25 pm

(Yeah, it's cheesy, I know)

I'm about to embark on a road trip. I won't be anywhere near the original winning time of 32:51 in a Jaguar XJ-S, nor will I be doing the whole run, but I will be covering a ~mumble~ decent good portion of it... and I could probably beat the motor home that did it in 57 hours :)

I have two horrid versions encoded at 16kpbs. Cannot get the soundtrack for the life of me, unless I stoop to recording it off the DVD.

Anyone who knows what a.b.s.m.comedy is, can ya post a copy there? Or even yous*ahem*endit? Seriously, I'd give my left nut for a copy of this track any time this month -- although if you're *that* interested in my left nut, maybe I don't wanna know about it. :)

Anyways - since I can't find anything more than the standard version of the *other* Ray Stevens track that's up here today... here's...

Ray Stevens: Cannonball
(Of which I've heard two versions, 1:31 "studio" version with only the first verse, and a 3:31 version with lots of engine noises, samples, probably snarfed from DVD... or VHS!)

What do you say when there are no words? (feel it)
Feel a song that's never been heard? (sing it)
How do you know when you hear the call? (answer it)
What do you do when you've done it all? (ball)
Cannonball. (Cannonball!)
Cannonball! (Cannonball!)
Cannonball!

It's not what you do, it's how you do it
Be anything you wanna be,
It's not what you got, it's how you use it,
You be you, and I'll be me,
It's just a matter of style - you can't fake it
Mile after mile, feelin' free,
If you got the soul - you can make it
Move 'em out (move 'em out!)
Let 'em roll (let 'em roll!)
From sea to shining sea...
Ball. (Ball.)
Cannonball. (Cannonball!)

(umm, imagine the sound a Lamborghini Countach would make while screeching to a halt near a "55 MPH" speed limit, sticking a "1" on it to make it a "155 MPH" sign, and screeching off again...)

What do you do when the mountain is there (move it)
How do you answer the challenging dare? (take it)
When your back's against the wall (?fake? it)
What do you do when you've done it all? (ball)
Cannonball. (Cannonball!)
Cannonball! (Cannonball!)
Cannonball!

Cops: Headquarters, we are still in pursuit of the black Lamborghini
HQ: You've been in pursuit for *two hours*.
Another five minutes and you'll be in Arizona.
Cops: Yeah? And we're gonna *stay* in pursuit until we catch him.
HQ: It didn't take us that long to catch Dillinger...

(Fade out to the chorus and yet more lovely revving of that Lamborghini engine...)
