Subject: Does anybody know this song ?

Written By: TheMirrorMan on 02/19/09 at 3:46 pm

Well some time ago, I heard a song, quite popular, I think from the 80s. Tried looking up the lyrics (didn't understand much), but to no avail. So I'm reaching to you guys.

It's sung by a woman, with a chorus sung by several women. The lead singer's voice sounds a bit like Tony Basil.

Here comes the thing that I can make out of the lyrics

*Chorus*
Hey now Rocky, gotta make it tonight,
Hey now Rocky, gotta make it allright,
Hey now Rocky, ????,
Hey now Rocky, gotta make it

*Alone*
Baby you,
You're the one that I believe in,
the reason I dream and then aie aie aie
I'm a star in New York, I'm a star, I'm depressed in ...

Hey now Rocky, gotta ... etc.

Does this make sense to ANYONE ? I think my lyrics are really off, so please don't be shy to laugh :-)

Thx,
Benny.

I'll put the notes in, I tried reconstructing the song :

Hey now Ro-cky
A#  A#  A# A#
Got-ta make it to-night
A    A  G      G A  A#
Hey now Ro-cky
C    C      C  C
Got-ta do it all  right
D    D  C  C A# C
Hey now Ro-cky
A#  A#  A# A#
Got-ta make it to-night
A    A  G      G A  A#
Hey now Ro-cky
C    C      C  C
Got-ta do it
D    D  C  C
Ba-by you
D# D  A#
You're the one that I    be - lieve in
A        A#  C    C    A#  A#  A    A
The rea-son to  dream
A#  C    D    A# A#
And then aye aye aye
A#  A#    A  G    F
I'm a star in New York,
D# D C    D D#  F
I'm a star, I'm de-pressed in L. A.
D# D C    D  D#  F      G A  A#
Now Rocky, gotta make it ...

Please play the notes, my lyrics will probably be way off, but the song should be very recognisable !!!

Thx,
Benny.

Well the E.G. Daily song mentioned looks pretty close.

But it's not what I'm looking for.

It's more up speed, a bit like Tony Basil's Mickey.

The singer has a higher voice than E.G. Daily.

Dashing between the keyboard and the computer I can sort of play it and vaguely recognise it

If you have a microphone on your computer try this website

http://www.midomi.com/

supposedly you can sing or hum the tune and it will search out some possible options for you.  Personally I haven't tried it but read somewhere that it worked

To be honest, this didn't help much. I even tried my "version" of David Bowie's Let's dance and I didn't get anything that even resembled it ;-)
Thanks though for the help !

Ok guys, one last desperate attempt ... I tried to play the song in Midi.

It's an horrible attempt, but I gave it a shot.

is it possible you have the wrong lyrics.  Cause I know a song that has some of these lyrics but not all of them.  It's up beat and dance from the 70s.

Patsy Gallant - From New York To L.A.
it picks up at 0:39/3:43
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haZCnt_SVgM

but she says nothing about rocky.

sorry to bring this post back to life afte 120 days.  specially if I am wrong.
