Subject: WBCN Boston montage - can you ID all of these songs?

Written By: ChuckyG on 08/20/10 at 9:40 am

WBCN used to run this Boston montage with tons of old songs that used to mention Boston in them.  I finally located a copy of it within the vast expanse of the final four day broadcast of the station and was hoping people might like to chip in and figure out which songs they used.  I don't think anyone ever bothered to list them out anywhere, and I've never been able to ID some of them.

"This is WBCN.  Boston" - DJ
"We were just another band out of Boston" - Boston, "Rock 'n' Roll Band"
"In Boston Massachusetts where she lived" - Byrds, "Boston"
"Please come to Boston for the springtime" - Dave Loggins, "Please Come to Boston"
"People say in Boston, even beans do it" - Ella Fitzgerald, "Let's Do It"
"Boston, Boston, Boston" - David Clifford, "Molasses to Rum" 1776 (1969 Broadway Cast Recording)
"Back up to Boston" - Rolling Stones, "Memory Motel"
"Boston at last" - Elton John, "Holiday Inn"
"He may ride for ever 'neath the streets of Boston" - Kingston Trio, "Charlie on the MTA"
"Boston if you please, Massachusetts" - Anita O'Day, "Massachusetts"
"Boston Massachusetts" - James Brown, "Night Train"
"Sweet things from Boston" - Steely Dan, "Hey Nineteen"
"Boston!" - Billy Idol, "Hot in the City (alternate version with Boston instead of New York)"
"Boston rocks. (Boston rocks). Boston rocks" - Ian Hunter Band, "Boston Rocks" from the Paradise Theater, Boston MA 6/25/79
"But they'll be rockin' in Boston" - Chuck Berry, "Sweet Little 16"
"From Stockbridge to Boston" - James Taylor, "Sweet Baby James"
"On the blue blood streets of Boston" - Bob Seger, "Fire Down Below"
"Modern sound, modern Boston town" - Jonathan Richman, "Roadrunner Twice"
"'Frisco to the apple to Seattle back to Boston" - The Stompers, "Coast to Coast"
"Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana" - Johnny Cash, "I've Been Everywhere"
"Bring back, the Boston rag" - Steely Dan, "Boston Rag"
"There was something in the air, there always is, in Boston" - Alice Ghostley, "Boston Beguine"
"We've only got one last thing to ask you Boston, you heard of the Boston monkey?" - J. Geils Band, "Hard Drivin' Man (Live)"
"have you heard about the Boston" - Rolling Stones, "Midnight Rambler"
"Ow! Boston you're my home" - Standells, "Dirty Water"
"Boston is the home of the four letter word that means rock, WBCN" - DJ

Just the one clip left. Not sure if it's from a song, or stage banter, etc...

I solved these with some help from a former WBCN staffer
