Subject: Hi everyone. I am new and have a question.

Written By: 80sExoticGoddess on 08/19/02 at 10:45 p.m.

Hi everyone.  My name is Kathryn and I just joined the site.  I currently live in Illnois and am 31 ys/o.  I have a question for you.

There is a song called "Thunder and Lightning" by Miss Thang that came out in the early to mid 80's.  I am trying to find out if it is available on CD.  I have searched thru many music sites, and no one even recognizes this song.  If anyone knows anything about it, or even has this song recorded on CD and wants to sell me a copy, please let me know here or e-mail me at Oceanpackerkat@aol.com.  Thanks!

Hey thanks so much for the information.  I tried the link you gave me and I think that web site is down or something, it wouldn't take me there.  There was some type of error message.  I will keep trying tho, its my only hope right now.  Thanks again so much!  Also, Do you know if you can record a record onto a cd, just in case it isn't available on cd?

let me make sure I got the url right:

I order from this website all the time, and have had few problems..

anyways, if you can only buy it on vinyl, there are companies which will convert records into CDs professionally, but you will pay anywhere from $50-$100 for it.. if you already have a record player, and a soundcard, it is possible to play the record player through an amplifier, and then plug it into your soundcard to record it.. I do it all the time, it's really not hard, but it does take a little bit of work to setup.. I also do it with casette and 8-track tapes.. there's also software which will filter out most of the clicks and pops so it sounds almost as good as a CD..

a closer look at the listing at GEMM, makes me think it's actually just available on record.. the CD is a mislabeled album by Monica, called "Miss Thang"

the 12" single listing though is probably correct.. (since Monica is a 90's artist, and most likely isn't easily available on vinyl).. which means you'll need to buy it and convert it to CD

:)Thanks ChuckyG... do you have the names to any of the companies who would transfer this onto a cd?  I wouldn't even know how to begin to do that sound card/record player thing.  Thanks!

since I do my own, I can't vouch for how reputable or anything these people are, but the prices look reasonable:

I think the most important thing, is to buy the vinyl before you try and find someone to convert it for you..

I certainly want to know how things turn out, since this is something people want to do on occasion.. and it would be nice to have a company I could recommend to people

"Thunder and Lightning" by Miss Thang was a moderate hit on the r&b chart here in the U.S. in the Fall of '86. (It failed to cross over to the pop chart.) It was an "answer song" to "The Rain" by Oran "Juice" Jones. Here in the U.S., it was issued only as a 12" vinyl single; there was no commercial 7" single. Unfortunately, she did not release an album; the song was just a one-off novelty single (b/w "The Quiet Storm"). So unless "Thunder and Lightning" has appeared on some type of '80s r&b compilation over the years, it does not exist on CD, I'm afraid... :-(

Yes, thanks... I know now that it only came out on a record.  After days of searching and looking, I found that out and I went ahead and ordered the 12" record.  I also found a website (medinasoul.cjb.net) where a DJ has put together some compilations of different 80's R&B (soul) that you can click on and listen to.  "Thunder and Lightning" is among the songs; so, I actually get to listen to it now whenever I want to, so that's kind of cool.  When my record arrives, I will simply make one of my own compilations, and add that song to it.  It took some time, but I got it figured out, and learned some things on the way.  Thanks for your reply.

There is a song is called "Knock on Wood" and was originally done, I believe by Otis Redding.  The lyrics are

KNOCK ON WOOD
Amii Stewart
- music and lyrics by Eddie Floyd & Steve Cropper

I don't want to lose you, this good thing
that I got 'cause if I do
I will surely,
surely lose a lot.
'Cause your love is better
than any love I know.
It's like thunder and lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.
You better knock, knock on wood, baby.

I'm not superstitious about ya
but I can't take no chance.
I got me spinnin', baby,
you know I'm in a trance.
'Cause your love is better
than any love I know.
It's like thunder and lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.
You better knock, knock on wood, baby.

It's no secret about it,
that woman is my loving cup
'cause she sees to it
that I get enough.
Just one touch from here,
you know it means so much. "

Perhaps this is the one you are looking for.  If not, try to get it anyway.  Its way cool.

I know it was available on cassette.  My cousin had something called "Rap vs Rap" or "Rap Raps Back" or something.  It was a compliation of song wars.  It had "The Rain"/"Thunder & Lightning", "Rumours"/"Jealousy", "Roxanne, Roxanne"/"The Real Roxanne", etc.

I don't remember the actual name of the tape or the company.  I have contacted my cousin to see if he still has it (which he prob'ly does) and will get back if I hear from him.

Good luck.
