Subject: New. Just another Melodic Rock junkee

Written By: V-MAX on 12/27/02 at 02:13 a.m.

The 80s had many trends (New wave, Punk, Heavy Metal, Rap, Pop,...etc.) but it was the Hair Metal and Melodic Rock bands that got me hooked. I hope to hear from the few left who still have a love for groups like Great White, Queensryche, Dokken, KISS, House of Lords, TNT, Saxon, Whitesnake, Warrant, Bon Jovi, Lynch Mob, Mr.Big, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tesla, Fastway, Vinnie Vincent Invasion, and the like.

I stumbled into some great new Melodic Rock as well like Mellinium, Gary Hughs, Pink 3 69, Damned Nation, Hugo, Skin Tag, and many others and I must say that I am impressed. Why don't the radio stations play this stuff? It would be a refreshing change from constantly playing Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilar, N'sync, rap, or all the 70s stuff that most of us over the age of 30 have heard over a thousand times already! Well, anyway....Hello! And I hope I didn't step on too many toes there, heh!

Hi there. Welcome to the boards, people like you and I my friend, are a dissapearing breed. I myself love Whitesnake, Helloween, like Queensryche and appreciate Dokken and some of the others you mentioned, you will find here a place where most like rock n' roll and have little appreciation for new meaningless "pop" as well as many 80's pop lovers. It is a place where most inhabitants have a great sense of humor and an openmindness really hard to find nowdays. I hope you stick around. Me likes 1200cc yama-street-rubber burning stallions too, and of course Up the Irons Like Bruce Dickinson said the last time I saw him live...   "-people talk about progressive rock, death metal rock, trash rock, rap-rock, for me it's all about rock, and the rest is BS..." or something like that. Welcome!! stick around, you won't regret it. post away!

WooHoo another Hair Metal fan.  I loved House of Lords.  I think you are the first person I have heard mention them.  Although, Giuffria did come up.  Welcome!!!!! :D

Hearing from a couple genuine 80s Rockers just put a big smile on my face. Kinda like running into an old friend in a foreign country. And with this generation's severe lack of appreciation (or ignorance) of 80s Rock, I'm beginning to feel like a foregner in my own country.

Scaryfast: Right on man! Maybe if enough of us give out more of our homemade Metal compilations (CD-Rs) we'll eventually spark a new demand for the stuff. I suspect a conspiracy against us though: Through the overpromotion of rap, grunge, modern pop, and the constant re-hash of all the 60s & 70s stuff, I believe that the powerful elite in this country are deliberately trying to steer todays youth (tomorrows leaders) to think and act like socialist hippies and ignorant crackheads. But then again; maybe I'm just a little too paranoid. heh!

I'm glad to see we share appreciation for that asphalt ripping monster, the V-MAX. I was seriously planning on selling my Honda V-45 Magna in 95 and buy a V-MAX. But then my wife got pregnant and I though..."I'd like to live long enough to see my daughter graduate High school...umm...better wait a while on that fantacy." I moved back to L.A. here real recently. After the dust settles from our new move, and with this years tax return, I just might put a couple thousand down and buy a brand new V-MAX. After I pay it off I think I'll buy a De-Lorean.

DJMidas: You've got good taste my friend. House of Lords is a class act and one of my top 10 favorites. "I wanna be loved" truly captured the lustful women chasing by rockers in the 80s (although at the time it was getting harder and harder to spot the difference between the dudes and chicks at first glance).
That song was every bit as tasty as "Fool for your loving" from Whitesnake, or "She shakes me" from Great White. And "Demons down", in my opnion, blows anything Bon Jovi did out of the water- and I like Bon Jovi. And "Can't find my way back home" is hands down the best 70s tune remake I ever heard! I don't think that even Bon Jovi could have pulled that one off so smoothly.

I tell you what guys; you really need to get hooked into the new Melodic Rock stuff. Most of it has a slightly different sound than what came out in the 80s, but simular enough to fall into the same catagory. Kind of like 4th of July (80s Metal) and New years day (New M.R.): Both are fun to experience but in a slightly different way. "Damned Nation" has a real strong 80s sound though. They're from Sweden (Melodic Rock capitol of the world) and MAN do they Rock! Their "Road of desire" CD is their best, but you can only get it through a dealer that deals with imports. Dreamdisc.com has the best deal on it; $16.00. Usually it's twice that much.

Gotta go. I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys again. Later!

I hear ya Johnman; I've got the "Silk and Steel" CD from Giuffria. "Change of heart" is a great tune, but the rest of the CD was a bit more mellow than I expected. I almost took a chance and bought their first CD (amazingly their stuff is still in print). What do you think about that one? 8)

It's great to hear that someone else actually remembers Queensryche and Fastway. I had to find a Fastway CD on ebay. I think all of Queensryche's stuff was good. But "Rage" and "Mindcrime" were killer!!

Eli Sheol: AAhh! So good to hear from another Rocker with such good taste! Operation Mind Crime and Rage for Order were my fovorites from Queensryche. Their "Best of" CD has all their tastiest hits. Queensryche is one of my top 3 favorite Rock groups, the other two are Dokken and Great White.

I don't know if you knew it or not but you didn't have to go to Ebay to get a good Fastway CD: Their "Fastway The Collection" CD had some good tunes that I haven't even heard before and it's still in print. You can buy it on CDUniverse.com, CDNow.com or Dreamdisc.com (all three are safe to make credit card orders). It's about $17.00 brand new. Here's the track listing:

1. Waiting for the roar
2. The world waits for you
3. Tired of your love
4. Move over
5. Trick or treat
6. Hold on to the night
7. Heft
8. All fired up
9. Misunderstood
10. Hurtin' me
11. Hung up on love
12. The stranger
13. Eazy livin'
14. Feel me touch me
15. All I need is your love
16. Another day
17. We become one
18. Give it all you got
19. Say what you will

You'd be surprised how much stuff is still in print on import. Great White's "Psycho City" is availible again, digitaly remastered with 2 bonus tracks. Unfortunately, most of their other really good CDs, like Shot in the dark, Once bitten, Twice shy, and Hooked are still OOP. It really woudn't be so bad if they at least had a decent "Best of" CD, but so far they put out about 4 of them and none of them had all their best tunes. Their "Best of 81-91" was probably their best attempt but it didn't have She shakes me, Run away, Lady Red Light, or Desert Moon. Oh well, thank God for Ebay!  8)
