Subject: What do you think of Psychics?

Written By: lorac61469 on 06/17/06 at 8:08 pm

Do you think people like Sylvia Brown, John Edwards and Derek Acorah (From the show Most Haunted) can actually have contact with the dead?

Have you ever been to a psychic?  Have your palm read? Tarrot cards?  Were they accurate or was it just a bunch of baloney?

I have never been, and I don't want to go.  I think I'm afraid of what they're going to tell me.  Stupid, I know.

I've done my own fortune several times with Tarot... it seemed promising every time, and oddly consistent, even when I tried different decks that belonged to other people.

However, I don't believe in TV Psychics, or anyone who makes a business out of Extra-Sensory abilities.

Cool, how did you learn to read the cards?

Sylvia Brown is the worst, she is rude and seems to make crap up.

I started to learn how to read Tarot Cards, and found of the three sessions I had with colleagues, all predications came out true. Thinking that this is very powerful, I put the cards away and have not touch them since.

I also have some tarot cards. A very dear friend of mine has been reading them for years and she is fantastic at it, doesn't charge you a penny either !
There are various books you can read to find out what the cards mean and how to lay them out. However, very important you should *never* buy yourself a pack of cards or they will not work properly for you, they should always be a gift from someone else.
I also have a set of runes. I haven't used them in ages but I've always found the results very interesting. I like the fact they don't 'fortune tell' as such more tell you where you are now and what options you have the rest is up to you !

Back on subject. I have an open mind about psychics though I do think alot of them are crooks who are very good at fishing for information and reading faces. I watched a very interesting programme on T.V where they took 4 members of the public and in one afternoon taught them the 'tricks of the trade' and then set them up as psychics at a fair. They were all completely believable even after only a short time of learning. It was alll about setting someone at their ease, ie finding a little out about them and then looking at them and their clothes etc and making educated guesses about their circumstances and then carefully reading their faces when they reacted to things that were said.

I think if someone can gain comfort from a psychic, ie if they argued with someone before they died and the psychic can tell them it's ok, be at peace they forgive you fine. It's when they exploite the grieving that I think it's terrible.

The thing is with "psychics", some are legit and others are frauds and sometimes it is hard to figure out which ones are which (or should I say "witch"  ;) ) I, too have read tarot cards and I have NEVER charged a cent to read them. I also have many other "fortune telling" cards, runes, etc. I have tried to learn how to read palms but I just can't get the gist of it.

One the recieving end, I have never had my read by another else (they do say that you are not supposed to read the tarot for yourself-but many of us who do read them, do.  :-\\ ) I have had my palm read-by two different people. One time it was at a fund raiser-someone "donating" their services but I did give a "tip". I wasn't really impressed too much because this was during the time when I was planning my wedding and all my thoughts were consumed with that and the person didn't even mentioned it. The other person is a friend of my step-daughter and has read my palm twice. He definately "has the gift".

As I posted in the other thread, I think it's all bunkum.

I'm so good at "cold reading" (I just learned it was called that), and knowing alot about people just from random info they give me, that it spooks people.

Cool, how did you learn to read the cards?

I read 2-3 books, talked to my grandma (she was the one who gave me the decks) who knows a lot about it.. and some of it, you kinda have to learn on your own, build on your own.

Most decks come with the interpatation of each card. They usually give you a couple of different spreads, too. However, everyone who reads the cards will do it differently. The deck is divided into Major Arcana and Minor Arcana.  The Major Arcana consist of 22 cards-all numbers with the exception of the Fool. The Minor Arcana is very similar to a deck of playing cards with 4 suits-swards, batons, cups and coins-complete with an ace, king, queen and knave (jack). (Personally, I prefer to just use the Major Arcana cards when I do a reading-again, that is just personal taste).

There are many, many different decks out there. I HEARD but don't know how true it is that your first deck should be given to you but I can't confirm this. I have heard conflicting information on this. But, the deck should reflect YOU.  (I have 2-the first one I ever had-that WAS given to me and then the "replacement" with is "The Tarot of the Catpeople"  ;D )

Before using them, you should put your "essence" and energy on them. Some people do this by putting the cards in a velvet bag and placing it under your pillow at night. I do it by taking each card and rubbing my hands on it-doing that several times before actually reading them.

There are also many different spreads too. I use a 7 card spread myself. Some people prefer a 10 card spread and some will use a spread that uses more cards. The position of each card determines what it repersents. i.e. the first card in my 7 card spread repersents the past and the second card repersents past influences. Each card has a different meaning and if the card is in the upright position or upside-down.

Ok, that is your Tarot Reading 101 course for the day.  ;D ;D  (There will be an exam later-ok, j/k)

If the universe is holographic in nature, all information is simultaneously present at every point in spacetime.  If that's true, then there's nothing supernatural or paranormal about the phenomena we call clairvoyance, telepathy, psychometry, or ESP --- they're all simply a matter of learning how to become aware of information that's already present, on a very subtle level, at every point in space and time.  If someone really desires to acquire such abilities, there are many simple methods for doing so.  But if you desire and acquire such abilities, they open you up to lots of opportunities for inflating your ego and playing power games with other people, both of which can make life unpleasantly complicated.

Nostradamus: "I knew you were going to say that."

Some other guy: "Well, you know what I think, Nostradamus?"

Nostradamus: "Yes."

Some other guy: "NOBODY LIKES A KNOW-IT-ALL !!!!"

Nostradamus: "I knew you were going to say THAT, too."

If you believe in evolution, then it only makes sense that some of us may retain more "nonverbal" communication skills than others.  I think that a really good psychic simply reads the person.  All nonverbal physical movements, expressions, etc. that tell the persons life story.  Animals do it every day.

Has anyone tried Gypsy Tarot cards?  They are so accurate in predicting your week ahead I don't know anyone whos tried them that isn't addicted to doing them once a week.
