Sounds like goofy fabrications to gin up tourism.

Check the history of just about any spot in Scotland, chances are something bloody and terrible happened there hundreds of years ago.  That's just the kind of place Scotland was!

If that mausoleum was possessed of the supernatural horrors of these rumors, it would be the furthest thing from fun.  The half-witted witch-hunters and the self-styled Gothic Wiccans snoop in every corner for evidence of this dark parallel universe in which the disturbed undead dwell.  How quickly their enthusiasm would metamorphose into unfathomable terror if they actually found it.

The agitated spirit world has no scientific manifestation.  I don't deny its existence.  Rather, I'm afraid it does exist and the last thing I would ever want is contact with it.  The demonic sensations my own organic brain produces in an excited state of anxiety are in themselves too much to bear.  Why would I want to invite some unknown quantity of exogenous evil from a concealed dimension?

If the plane of the undead is anything like I think it might be, then there's a reason why our mundane world is walled off from it.  Perhaps questions answered about the insides of our craniums and the space beyond our atmosphere only lead to more questions because our minds would shatter if we had the whole truth before us.  I turn once again to Lovecraft:

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.
H. P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"
