Subject: The Devil's Footprints

Written By: Philip Eno on 02/08/08 at 2:01 am

It was this day back in 1855, when The Devil's Footprints, a series of mysteriously hoof-like marks, appeared in the snow in Devon, England, and continued throughout the countryside for over 100 miles.

I recall reading about this when I was younger, has this mystery been documented elsewhere?

It still remains a mystery today.

Wow, this is the first I've actually heard of this...pretty interesting though. It's those unexplained things that make you totally wonder, huh?

Happening before photography as we know it today was invented, so there was no pictorial evidence.

I read this story years ago, 1978 to be precise, in a book called Strange Stories Amazing Facts put
out by Readers Digest. It is quite an interesting story, I like all the theories.

Or it turns up in a charity shop near me, I spot it and Philip will let me send it to him.

I will try and commit the name to memory.

Ah yes, I remember reading something about that on my tea cards that I used to collect when I was little. These footprints would actually clear obstacles and could even be found on rooftops.

I reckon it was some drunkard who had too much scrumpy, lol.

Of course, all this is local to you.

Yeah, it is relatively local. They found the tracks in Exmouth and even as far down as Torquay.

I think it was. Some bloke had too much cider and thought he could dance across rooftops, lol.

I think every area or region has its own scary monster story.  Here in New Jersey, it is the Jersey Devil.  The Jersey Devil supposedly runs around in the woods here.  There is also supposed to be a gateway to Hell in New Jersey that the Devil goes in and out of.

Many people may consider the gateway to Hell to be any of the bridges that come into New Jersey, lol.

I remember reading about this in an old book. Would this be similar to "the Jersey Devil"?
Did "the Jersey Devil" leave a trail of footprints in the snow?

Subject: Re: The Devil's Footprints

Written By: midnite on 05/01/08 at 6:57 pm

I do not believe the Jersey Devil left footprints in the snow.  The story behind the Jersey Devil is that was that it was the 13th child of a woman and it was the devil's child.  He roams around in the forests in Southern New Jersey.

I think this is hogwash.. When I was a kid we used to camp down in the pine barrens, never saw anything unusual and I grew up in Jersey all my life. They did make for great campfire stories though.
