Subject: Clarification of helpful comments

Written By: Phil Carmichael on 11/10/03 at 08:58 a.m.

I have only been writing parodies for this excellent site for a few weeks but I have a couple of questions. In order to improve and develop our abilities it is useful to take on board helpful comments where appropriate. Having just written a new parody and had some potentially useful comments....is it possible to contact someone to ask to elaborate?
Related to this....occasionally an author may wish to revise a song in response to changing events or indeed helpful advice so is it acceptable to alter a parody and submit it again?

Two suggestions:

1.  Answer the comment inside of your song, asking for more info.  Many of the people leaving comments keep an eye out for this using the "Latest Comments" link.  I left a question about comment for someone in a song for a comment that person left months ago, and that person still answered in a few days.

2.  Leave a post for that person here (and hope they read the message boards).  For example, if you had a question for me, leave a post titled "Question for Jeff Reuben".

Hope that helps.

Since there's no contact info added when you post a comment, there's no way for you to contact the person who left it. You can always leave a comment thanking them, and asking for more detailed info, and maybe they will see it. There's a function on the site which lets you see every comment left for the past couple days, it's how some people actually look for parodies and popular discussions. So it's likely the person might notice your response there:

If you want to revise a parody, it's ok to resubmit it. I do ask though that you send me a message with the URL to the old parody and ask that it be deleted (which removes your comments, votes, etc). Though I would recommend that you not resubmit the same thing more than once or twice

wow, you beat me to it by a couple minutes there.

I of course encourage people to use the "Latest Comments" link whenever they can, since it tends to help find the spammers on the site (and they get reported sooner).. I check once every day or two to try and get rid of the really awful stuff that hasn't gotten reported yet.
