Subject: real life musical counterparts of parody artists

Written By: Ethan Mawyer on 12/09/03 at 12:18 a.m.

STG - there's no question in my mind that he would be Elvis. He was the first to achieve greatness on amiright and pretty much carried the site for a while like Elvis dominated rock and roll in the late 50's and early 60's.

William Tong - The beatles. The beatles marked a dramatic change in the musical environment by spearheading the British invasion and william tong changed the amiright environment by making it much more political for a long time. Both also had an amazing streak of chart success

Malcolm Higgins - The Rolling Stones. Both are originally from England, both have written a lot of lyrics that would probably be rejected under chucky's new policy, and both are still going strong after hundreds of songs

Merry and Pippin - I was thinking of making you Queen but i've changed my mind and i'm sorry to say this but you two are Michael Jackson. The hobbits and "king of pop" are both unquestionably talented and successful but it is hp ard to tell in both cases whether they are male or female. M & P aren't has beens like jacko but comparisons cant be perfect

Smurf and Mr. Horse - Justin Timberlake. Because it always seemed to me that they were trying to be merry and pippin. Of course it is better to idolize gender ambiguous hobbits than gender ambiguous former superstars that look less like a normal person than a hobbit does

Royce Miller - Arethra Franklin.Because she is the queen of sole and you are the queen of parodies

Hopefully i'll have more later anyone else who wants to contribute can

Spaff's Zeppelin-he came out like a monster..kinda like Zeppelin did

Claude's Pink Floyd-he came out slightly before Spaff, and again like a monster

Jeff Reuben's Dion....he sits in the backdrop and churns out a hit every now and then (or, whenever he writes).

Phil's Bruce SPringsteen ..I dont know why though

Darkjon's Jerry Lee Lewis......he was an incredably influencial artist, but where is he now?

hmmm..I( dont know what else.....can I be the Kinks?

You and Mike are those Gallagher brothers from Oasis.  And if Tong is the Beatles Michael Pacholek must be Jeff Lynne.  Also, just to clarify, I wasn't really hinting that Melhi was J.Lo; I'm actually thinkin' Joni Mitchell.  Ethan, I'm afraid you're Eminem.

Modified to add that I never "came out"; that would make me Elton John.

you can't just say i'm eminem and not back it up... even though i have mixed emotions about the comparison while most people here would feel quite insulted.

And who is jeff lynne?

If Bill Tong is the Beatles then Alvin Dover is Yoko Ono, no?

I thought about naming mike and myself but something about self-labeling bothers me. we need artists that occaisionally write together, sometimes don't, yet continually keep in touch and on good terms with each other. The only thing I could think of was Destiniy's Child and lord knows that isn't acceptable. lol. HELP!

i'd say alvin dover is billy preston, not yoko ono

wow...Jeff Lynne is famous for first being in the short lived band called THe Move in the early 70s, and then forming Electric Light Orchestra......After ELO broke up in the early 80s, he released a few solo albums, and then joined the Traveling Wilburys....after that he did alot of work with the late George Harrison....including producing his last album, Brainwashed

For one thing I think eminem is brilliant so don't take it the wrong way.  I didn't put a lot of thought into it, but it seemed like a funny thing to say--it just occurred to me that he's young, talented and funny in a serious way, if you know what I mean.  Don't be offended; you can be John Mayer if you want.  Also, I'm guessing Pacholek would rather be Billy Joel and that's ok too.  And let's see--Bob Gomez=Jimi Hendrix, Robert Pagliaro=Bob Dylan and yeah, I think I'm done here.

Claude:
Wow, thanks for the compliment.  I've been compared to a lot of "things" but never a person such as Bob Dylan.  Don't know that I live up to that, but thank you.
Believe it or not, I recently met Mr. Dylan - that's what I called him too.  I was basically keeping him company for a few minutes before others arrived for a meeting.  Here's a music god and I really didn't know what to say to the guy.  We had had a beautiful weekend after several days of rain - so I said to him, "after all that rain I finally got to take my dog to the park this weekend."  And he said, in his best Bob Dylan voice, "wow, you have a dog, man - what kind."  So we talked about my dog for a few minutes.
Is Pacholek Billy Joel because Michael is so short?
Thanks again,
bob

Whoa; you met Dylan?  That is cool.  I can just hear him asking about your dog: "How many trees does your dog have to sniff, before he's allowed to go pee?"  Sorry; couldn't resist.  Anyway, glad you weren't offended.  You've definitely got the passion to live up to it (just don't go gospel on us).  Oh, and I don't know if MP is short but he's definitely "The Entertainer" sometimes.

Perhaps both of you are barking up the wrong tree.  Offended?  It's pretty difficult to offend me, but don't let me hear you dissing my dog or I'll show you my teeth.
Me, go gospel? Are you sure you're not confusing me with
Guy - 'cuz, I never dreamed I saw St. Augustine, but I do think Everybody must get stoned.
Emotionally yours,
bob

I'm not very good at this because the amiright authors seem quite original, to me.  But, I think I have a couple of good ones.

Diva:  I was going to say Tina Turner or Cher for you because they're Divas and you've found success both in duet with your hubby and solo,  as they have.

Spaff:  Johnny Marks. (both kings of the holiday song)

Joni Mitchell for me, eh?  Joan, Joni... close enough. (I wanted to be Joan Jett, when I was growing up.)

Your recent parodies are very good. You have used a diverse group of artists and songs to parody. It would  will be difficult to place a name as a counterpart. I'm glad that I read over your parodies. I'll lookout for more in the future.  :)
