Subject: Cheesy hit page counter
I got some free time last night to work on a new site feature that's been asked for a couple of times. A hit counter on song parodies. Here's how it works:
If a parody receives more than one hit in a day, it will get updated. If a parody gets one hit every day for a week, it won't add 7 hits. The count is only incremented if a day occurs when there are two or more hits.
Hit count totals are updated at the end of each day, not when the page is loaded.
No filtering is taking place, if you hit refresh a million times on a page, it will count them all, it just doesn't show up until the end of the day.
Since there's no easy way to filter multiple hits by the same person, I won't be doing a "most popular" page listing.
I may add something to the parody author extended view page at some point in the future.

Um...where do the hit counters show up for the parodies? I looked at the parodies themselves, but didn't see them (so I'm either blind, or they're being counted somewhere else).

way at the end of the page, right above the copyright notice. If a parody hasn't received at least two hits in a day yet, it won't show up at all.
I am going to reset all the data tomorrow, so if you suddenly notice your parody has a lot fewer hits, don't be too upset. I want it to start counting from the first of the new year. It's also going to change slightly in appearance tonight.

I just noticed some of the parodies that were used in testing didn't show hits now, so I erased the whole lot. they should show up again tomorrow before getting wiped out for the real run... like I said, it's all in testing still.

I just keep looking for things people want, and as I find the time, I implement them. I finished my night classes three weeks ago, so I've been busily working on the site trying to get as many things fixed/created as I can. I'll be doing an indepent study in the spring (and hopefully it will be less stressful than two graphic design classes at the same time), so hopefully I can keep up with stuff as it arises better.

Ellipsis, I think you'll find it's a typo rather than a misspelling: and if you couldn't spot "independent" from that, your spillchucker's malfunctioning...

I figured that's what he meant. ;D But I don't think it's a typo; he just omitted some letters.

there's a fine line between a typo and a spelling error... hte would be a typo for the, most people would assume someone knows how to spell the word the... in this case it could go either way. There's also a fine line between love and hate, but that's better left to Chrissie Hynde to explain.
Either way, I was under the influence of Nyquil at the time (I still am, that stuff really is better than alcohol), so I blame the drugs. I don't like the drugs, but they do like me.
