Subject: Voting and cookies

Written By: Old_Comedywriter on 02/13/04 at 02:11 p.m.

All this time I've been voting on parodies and they HAVEN'T been counted because I've had cookies turned off!  Why isn't there a warning about this somewhere?

At least this exonerates me from blame for being the "ones" guy...

Just wondering...are these cookies tracking how we vote?

So what's an old comedy writer to do?  Write a parody about it, of course.   Parody of "Devil with the Blue Dress On"  -  "Better Turn Your Cookies On."

Most people have their cookies on, which is why this doesn't come up too often.  It's a part of the way I prevent multiple votes. To be honest, I forgot I even required cookies to vote (I knew I used them, but not that they were required). I wrote it almost four years ago, so I can't remember everything I guess.

That excuse is only for old people like me...

Without cookies you get a "Press here to confirm (your vote is not counted until...)" button.  I click it, and it comes right back to the parody with the vote count not incremented.

With cookies you get the screen that you guys have probably become used to, and the count increments.

Cookies I can eat.  I'm just glad this site doesn't force-feed you spam.  Guess you can tell it's dinner time.

actually, my memory is pretty crappy... keeps me sane if I forget things though, otherwise I'd remember a lot of useless garbage

you always get the "press here" screen if a cookie isn't set.  if you get to that screen and it can't set the cookie a second time it just gives up.  the philosphy being that you can't vote without cookies, and you have them disabled them so you probably know what you're doing (since the default is on).  you don't want to give out more hints as to how the thing works, otherwise it's just one less step for cheaters to figure out. not that it's mind numbingly difficult to figure out how to cheat anyways
