If your name is listed above, you are in this bracket and should post the url to your song in this thread sometime this week.  I'm setting the official deadline as Saturday night but if everyone has their song in sooner I'll gather them up and you can begin voting right away.  There are no restrictions; you may use any song you like as long as you wrote it.  It will be the same song in every round.  If you change your mind about the song you want to use you may change it as often as you like as long as all sixteen songs haven't been put up yet.  If you change it you should do so by modifying your first post as opposed to adding another one.

As far as voting goes, I'll go into it in detail when I post the voting thread but the gist of it is that only people participating in the tournament are allowed to vote and they do so by leaving a message in the voting thread with their choices for each round.

Again, if you are interested in participating but your name is not listed you should respond to the original "March Madness Parody Tournament" thread and say so.  If you already have, that means you are in the second bracket if we ever fill it and may be a reserve for this bracket if needed.

So go ahead, players, and begin posting but remember--the more accessible you make your song, the better your chances.  Good luck.

My entry is "Ear Doctor":

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/davidseville0.shtml

My entry, "Ear Doctor", is a parody of David Seville's "Witch Doctor".

David Seville is most famous for "Alvin And The Chipmunks".

On the web page located at the following URL there is a link to a long, excellent sample of the original tune "Witch Doctor" ... this free audio sample gives you a complete chorus and samples of other verses, too:

(When you go to the following Amazon web page, scroll down to the section labeled "Listen to Samples")

Lyrics to David Seville's "Witch Doctor":

The following page has both lyrics and a MIDI file of the melody:

Claude, I wanted to pass on this first one and see how it went. I am a novice at this messageboard stuff, but I might want to join Guy and Adagio for the second. I actually think I have a better chance of doing well if someone else chose the parody, because I am continually amazed at what people like. Stravinsky was a lousy conducter of his own works. I guess I only have fun if someone makes me.

It's starting to look like another bracket is a possibility; I'm gonna start trying to attract more guinea pigs, er, contestants so I can be in this one.  I'm lovin' some of the matchups so far--my favorite is Earl vs. neminem--Jan & Dean vs.  Beach Boys--if that isn't a deathmatch made in heaven I don't know what is.  Anyone else who wants to be in the second bracket, let us know soon; we'll take anybody.

Hey Claude, if you do get enough, could you pool them and make a bracket of 32?  Or I suppose you could try to do the original of 16 and then another of 8, or something similar to that.  Just a thought :)

The plan right now is to go ahead with the original 16 as a separate entity.  If we get enough to do another we will and then pit the two winners against each other.  I don't really want to increase the voting commitment too much; this way you only have to vote within your bracket and then again in the final showdown.  I'm hoping to get another 16 for the sake of symmetry and fairness but if it takes too long we may have to go with just eight; we'll see.

You should have used the Jungle Book one, Phil :)  That one was funny.  The Hotel California one is interesting too.

I was expecting you to enter the Bastard Spammer parody or Immune to Madonna, those were genius.

Um...Watt and I have decided on Cross Product, which really should have been "Dot Product" because we used cosine instead of sine :P

Go here for lyrics to Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" :)

I like "Bare Celebrities", but reckon that it has already had quite a bit of exposure, so to speak; "Taj Mahal Tundoori" is one that is always well-received when I play it, but has had pretty much no attention at amiright.

PS "Cross Product" is brilliant... Damn.

Hey I know I'm already in this tournament (and I'll post my song soon, I'm just waiting for the right time, before sunday I know) but I was wondering if I could queue in for the next one. More than likly I won't win this so it'd be great if I got a second chance.  ;D

Subject: Re: Tournament Entry Thread--need more contestants

Written By: Claude_Prez on 02/26/04 at 03:03 a.m.

It's not looking too good for a second bracket.  So far by my count we have Adagio, Guy, Diva, myself, and possibly Rick and kinda possibly Agrimorfee.  If there is a second bracket we wouldn't want anyone who's in the first bracket to be in it since the winners will go up against each other.

Other than MysteryGoat, we still need Joelle and Jack Wilson to put their songs up; feel free to go ahead any time, folks--I know I said the deadline's Sunday but I'm guessing everyone else would like to get started sooner if possible.  Maybe once the voting begins it will spark some interest in the second bracket.   But no, I wouldn't hold my breath.  I was gonna wait to see how this one went before I said anything, but would anyone have any interest in a "song of the month" contest?  It wouldn't need a specific number of people; basically, during the first week of the month everyone chooses one song they wrote the previous month and puts it in a thread like this one.  After a week, everyone in the contest picks the three songs they like best in order--best gets three points, next best two, third gets one.  The song with the most points wins.  What I like about it is it encourages everyone to bring their best song forward; it could actually make the sometimes overwhelming number of submissions more manageable and everyone involved would be guaranteed to have at least one song looked at by a lot of people.  Also, if it caught on, we could have put the winners together in a "song of the year" contest that everyone who participated in any monthly contest could vote in.

Anyway, that's my alternative idea since it looks like the second bracket may not happen.  Any thoughts?

Is the reason that there is not more interest in a second bracket the status of the first six writers who signed up?

Those six writers look very, very intimidating; but, if the bracket does happen, I will sign up as well.

Also, Claude, I like your parody of the month and year ideas.

Subject: Re: Tournament Entry Thread--need more contestants

Written By: Claude_Prez on 02/28/04 at 01:58 p.m.

As far as an update, there's really not much to add that's not already here in this thread or the other.  With wdh, we have I think ten people for the second bracket.  For it to come out correctly and be fair I'd like to get up to sixteen so I plan to give it a few days.  I gotta go somewhere in a few minutes so I plan to put up the voting thread for the first bracket later tonight and then possibly the entry thread for the second bracket even though it's not filled yet just to get things moving.  I don't want to combine the two because I don't want to increase the voting commitment so the plan now is to (1) Get the voting started on the first bracket tonight.  (2) Get the entries started on the second bracket tonight and (3) Get the second bracket filled in the next few days.  Again, once both brackets are finished the winner of each bracket will face off against each other.  If anyone has any suggestions I am open to them but I'm hesitant to change much without a pretty strong consensus since I don't want this to take forever.  So get your songs ready; you should be able to put em up tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
