I believe these are all the people who expressed interest in a second bracket for the parody tournament.  If you're listed and not planning on participating, please let us know.  If you are participating, we're doing this bracket a bit differently to move things along faster.
First, some reminders:  By entering, you are agreeing to vote in every round even after you've been eliminated.  You'll also be voting in the final showdown between the winners of the two brackets.  You may enter any song you've written and submitted to AmiRight.  Enter by replying to this thread with the url of your song choice.  You may change your mind as many times as you like as long as all sixteen songs are not posted yet.  If you do change it, do so by modifying your original message as opposed to creating a new one.  You may also include a link to a recording or lyrics of the original song if you think some people may not know it.

After we have sixteen entries, they'll be gathered up and paired according to the same seeding process used for the first bracket and we can begin voting.  Hopefully it won't take long; maybe if we all put crappy songs up we can sucker people into joining us then pull the ol' switcheroo on 'em.  Whatever it takes.  All right, so let's get them songs up.

Claude...do we vote on each one, or just our pick of the sixteen?

Claude, I talked to Mari. She's in and I'm in. Looks like a fun second group and following the first will show us how it works. We promised each other to be fair and not just vote for each other, but vote for the better work. We could perhaps offer a recording posted for the winner, but we'll see how it goes.

I would like to still be in, although Im kinda confused...I didn't vote on the first round because I wasn't around this board to do so...can I still be in?

Sorry it's so confusing; I swear I'm trying to make this as simple as possible.  Anyway, the voting for round one of bracket one (the one you're in) just began and will be going on all week, so go to the bracket one voting thread and vote on each of the eight matchups.

Great!  Yeah, I'm hoping the voting system doesn't backfire but so far it looks like people aren't taking it personally.  A recording would be a very exciting prize but like you said, we'll see how it goes (now everyone's gonna pick a Beatles song heh heh)

Assuming we get sixteen (I think we will) voting will be done exactly the same way they're doing in the other bracket--pick your favorite from all eight pairs.  The advancing songs will become four pairs, then two, then one, then finally one winner who will go up against the winner from the other bracket.

Can I pick another one for the second bracket, or does it have to be "ACT"?

Subject: Re: Tournament Entry Thread--bracket2--spots avail

Written By: Claude_Prez on 02/29/04 at 01:50 p.m.

Looks like there's some confusion.  There are two separate brackets, each with completely different people.  No one in the first bracket will be in the second bracket.  If you've picked your one song for your first bracket, you're stuck with it.  If you advance to the second round or beyond, it will be that same song all the way through.  Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Okay Claude. I'm making my choice and I think I'm sticking with it. It's one of the first I ever learned to play,(four different tunings now), it took me days to write, and it's about my favorite Renaissance man.  http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/crosbystillnash0.shtml

Mari will make her choice later today.

Here is my submission.  This was one of my earliest parodies on this site.  This is not a humorous parody and voting in the funny category should be based on profoundness and not humor.

Thanks for the opportunity to let me show this song again.  It was not selected as a candidate for the most profound in the AMIRIGHT awards that was done last fall.  I'd just like to see how it does with the plug that this contest provides.  Good luck to all participants and above all, let's have fun with this.

OK,  here's my parody:  "A Boob At The Half", based on the Beatles song "A Day In The LIfe". (Friday, 03/05/04).  CLAUDE, Now that I've confused and inconvenienced myself and a bunch of other folks I think I'll stay with the above selection.  I failed to check to see if anyone else was using the one I was going to put in and it so happens someone WAS using that song.  So fittingly,  THIS "Boob" will stay with THAT "Boob" as his entry. That makes sense, also, because I've always felt that 2 Boobs were much better than 1 Boob  anyday.  Sure glad I didn't remove the lyric links,  I would've had to look those up again, too.  Promise I won't change my mind again on this.  Thanks.

Hey,  what is this, a "Tag-Team" parody entry here?  Geez,  depending on the bracket locations a "Duncan vs. Duncan" final is possible.  I'd almost be rooting for it, well, maybe I will if I get my butt booted out early...Seriously,  good luck to all.

I am getting to that point; I was trying to avoid it though.  If you want to feel free but make sure you mention about the voting commitment all the way to the end.  I also was thinking after the first round of the first bracket ends this weekend that anyone who's been eliminated could try again in the second bracket as long as they're willing to vote in both brackets.  I still think we'll get four more but it may happen quicker that way.

It's not exactly bracketology, but do you think you can set it up like the NFL playoffs where four people get a "first-round bye" while the others duke it out?  Just a suggestion ;D

I received a personal appeal from Adagio (conscientiously including the appropriate disclaimer), and I would love to participate, but there's a big BUT: I will be unable to pitch in votes, comments, parodies - ANYTHING - from March 12-21. If that's acceptable, I'm in, but at the same time I don't want C4P (or any of the rest of you) to have to plan the tourney around my schedule.

So I'll continue to stay outta this thing unless I get the green light to be MIA for that timeframe. Oh, and in a few hours, I'm gonna be unavailable for the rest of this week. Sorry to be a pain in your collective behinds. As I mentioned earlier, March really is madness pour moi.

Question Claude!
When bracket #2 is filled ......
I understand everyone votes on their own bracket
and keeps voting on the new brackets as contestants are eliminated.

Voting Question:
Do we vote on the comments under the song??
Or, will you post a thread on this messageboard to vote?

Thanks! :)

I don't know; most of the voting is done in the first round which would be long over by then--also, unless the vote is close yours may not be needed.  I'd really like to have Spaff in this so I'm gonna say go ahead and put up a song just in case (if it's not too late) and we'll find a way to work around it so we can get this show on the road.

Alllllllrighty then. Thanks for your encouragement - and sorry, again, all, for having to be incommunicado for much of the month.

I'll enter one of my underperformers, "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Twinkie," which, conceptually, is a parody of the Wallace Stevens poem "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird," and, musically, is a parody of the "Stars on 45" medley. For those who haven't heard the medley, fear not - it's a made up of (predominantly Beatles) songs that you probably do know.

Thanx, everyone, for your indulgence. I'll check back with y'all on Monday.

Cool.  I trust she mentioned that you're required to vote in every round even once you've been eliminated.  Right now, Bracket One is finishing up their round one voting; I'm sure they'll be done ANY TIME NOW (hint hint).  You will be in Bracket Two with the other people listed here:
Adagio
Guy DiRito
Rick Duncan
Agrimorfee
Diva
John Jenkins
Michael McVey
Paul Robinson
wdh
Claude Prez
Mari Duncan
STG
Spaff
Chris Bodily TM
Right now I think everyone listed has their song up already (well except you).  It can be any song you've written and submitted to AmiRight.  After we get two more people to fill out the bracket, I will gather up the songs and seed them, NCAA-tournament-style, according to the overall voting average of the authors.  What that means basically is that the highest-rated authors will be facing the lowest-rated authors in the first round.  This is technically designed to ensure that the best songs meet in the final rounds but really it's just a good objective way to do it so that nobody (namely me) has to make any real decisions about which songs to pair up together.  Which is the next step.  I'll post a voting thread with the eight pairs of songs, including any links you want to provide to a recording of the original or perhaps the original lyrics in case it's a song not everyone knows.  This part is completely up to you, but to give your song the best chance to do well it may behoove you to choose one people are likely to know.  When the voting thread is posted, it will have instructions about how to vote but if you want to know now you can look at the Bracket One voting thread.

Up til recently, we've been planning on using the same song in every round but we're now considering allowing people who advance to use a different song each round.  It will probably make it more interesting but since it's really not exactly what everyone signed up for we're waiting to see if anyone objects before we decide for sure.  I think that's about it--I'm hoping we'll pick up the last two players in the next day or two so we can get started.

Just my two cents, Claude. If the first round has only one song per person, that's the way this should go. I know everyone want to plug as many as possible, but it's a little unfair to those bumped in the first round. We can always do this again, so I think one song per contest. It's too confusing, and I believe in sticking to your guns.

That's pretty much all I needed to hear, Rick.  Everyone signed up for the one song tournament and that's what it's going to be.  You're right; we can always do another contest if that's what we want.

Claude,  just saw Rick's post and that seems fair to me, also.  Question:  If I decide to use a different song than the one I've entered to this point and that song has already been posted am I allowed to make any changes to it?  If so, would I have to re-post the song through the regular parody submission process?   There's a couple I'm thinking about but after studying them further there are a couple little things I would like to correct or enhance before using them here.  Thanks again,  Paul

Good question.  Basically all I care about is that there's a link to one of your songs up when I'm ready to post the voting thread.  You can change your mind as many times as you like up to that point (by modifying your original post, preferably).  As far as revising goes, that's really not up to me.  The entries are all links to AmiRight songs so if you got Chuck to post a revision in time that would work.  I think he technically doesn't allow revisions but I know people have done it before and my guess is he wouldn't have a problem with it unless a lot of people started doing it.  Last I checked we still needed two people so you should have a couple days at least.

Oops.  Let me clarify.  I think it's kind of a pain for him to revise an existing parody, but less of a big deal for you to resubmit it in its revised form then have the old one removed later.

The downside to a resubmit is that the original votes and comments disappear when the link to that thread is removed. They do not transfer over to the revised song.  Something you may want to consider, Paul.  I have done this with several songs where I fat fingered my name or something and it has cost me votes.  I think this is the preferred way that CG wants to conduct this kind of business.

Claude - Actually that makes quite a bit of sense.  And I don't want to bother ChuckyG any more than I probably usually do anyway.  Perhaps for now in the interest of time I'll just post a new "deluxe" version and deal with removing the old one when the dust settles.  I already sent Chucky an e-mail but I'll just send another cancelling my inquiry.

Guy,  Funny you should mention "Fat-Fingering" your name...That's exactly what I did on today's post "Every Day". I cut the finger next to my left thumb last night and with the band-aid on it I've been "fat-fingering" all over the place since.  I KNEW that and proof-read and corrected the parody TEXT about 5 times more than I usually do and caught a lot of little stuff.  I DO remember looking at my name before I submitted but I still didn't see that I had type two "ii"'s in the middle of "Robinson" instead of just one.  So that parody is on a new and different Author's page.  Oh, well...Kinda funny actually, since the parody is about dealing with getting old - I have noticed recently that I'm having a little trouble catching  this type of thing.  It is annoying screwing up and losing the vote count, though.

Hey Claude, since it looks like Watt and I are no match for the hobbit, can we snag a spot in this bracket if nobody else comes in first?  :)

But you should let new people in first...we're just going in as a last resort sort of thing :)

Yeah, we probably won't last long in this one either...so many good people ;D

Absolutely.  You guys get first dibs from this bracket if there are still spots open when the voting ends.  Thanks for speaking up.

Hey, I was notified that there were still some spots left open in this tournament and it was suggested that I come check it out. I would be interested in entering this tournament and would you please explain to me how I would go about doing so?

Of course.  First, go back to every song you spammed.  Read each one carefully, leaving a vote and a thoughtful comment.  If you start now, you should be done in time for next year's tournament.  Thank you.

Claude,  wonderful response - it took me a minute to figure out this was the same  dude who has been leaving smelly Spam droppings all over the place. You posted a very clever and measured response.  I think I would have been tempted to reply with sputtering capitalized explitives followed by multiple exclamation points.

Claude, that was priceless. Mari and I read your last comment together and laughed each of the three times we read it.

after a hard fought battle decided by claude's tiebreaker vote apparently i'm out of the first tournament so i'll enter this one to try to get exposure for a song that got buried in what i think was a 70 song day

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/themamasandthepapas9.shtml

hopefully i'll find a sound file soon but right now i'm in the school library computer lab where the computer shouldn't be making noises

Dude, that's harsh.  All right, finally we have our sixteen.  There are no openings available.  I'll get to work on the voting thread; I think I still need a couple songs though but I can add them when they come in.
