Subject: Tournament Stuff--Please read

Written By: Claude_Prez on 03/05/04 at 04:04 p.m.

The prospect of a lot of ties in the first round has prompted me to make an actual decision.  I wish I'd thought of it beforehand but better late than never:

One person from Bracket Two will be voting in Bracket One instead.  So Bracket One will have 17 voters and Bracket Two will have 15.  No ties.  I apologize if this upsets anybody but frankly it seems like a great idea to me.  Also, the person from Bracket Two voting in Bracket One will be me.  And since the voting deadline is tomorrow I plan to vote tonight because I don't want to be in the unenviable position of being the tiebreaking vote (hint hint Martha, Mike F, Jack, and well, Johnny I think has his votes ready so I'm not worried about him making the deadline).

Also, this solves the problem of Spaff being possibly unavailable to vote in some rounds because I will be free to stand in for him as a guest voter for Bracket Two.  Feel free to air any concerns you may have but bear in mind I'm starting to feel like I just need to make some decisions so this thing doesn't drag out forever.  Thank you

Whatever you want, Claude. I know this is a new thing and we have to work out the bugs, and it's all for fun, and there's no pressure or big prize, so call it as you see it. We're with you.

This is all just fine with me, Claude. Do the people submitting parodies know there is a contest?

I haven't really gone out recruiting (as you have--thank you) because I don't want to put people on the spot.  As I said before, if we don't get two by the time the first round voting is over, I have no problem with letting someone who's been eliminated try again in Bracket 2 as long as they vote in both.  We'll get it filled this w/e one way or another.

You think I really want a contest? Yea, I do...it'll be fun and a great way to show off good sportmanship muscles.  When I was gathering those people for the contest, I could see you saying...'You can shush now, Adagio' (I will anyway...lol).

Not at all; I'm thrilled you brought Spaff and Chris into this even though I'm worried Spaff is really too busy but I could go crazy second guessing myself so screw it.  I just don't wanna be too pushy but I'm delighted if someone else is willing to do it for me so thanks again and thanks everyone else for your support; this really is a lot of fun.

I agree with Rick and adagio and I commend Claude for his unselfishness in not voting in the bracket in which he is entered.  So far all of the decisions/recommendations that Claude has made have been good ones; but, even if they were imperfect, I think we would all prefer to have an imperfect competition coordinated by Claude than to have to coordinate it ourselves or not have it at all.

Adagio,  Yes a good "Nudger" is hard to find these days.  I was thinking of trying it but I think I already pass out a little too much of myself sometimes with all my lengthy comments.  Thanks!.  pr

John,  I second you're entire comment.  I've already "kudo'd" Claude for his Herculean efforts in coordinating this and will gladly and without 2nd thought or question abide any decision he wants to make about the Tournament.  pr

Claude,  good idea on the tie-breaker method.  It's been interersting watching this Tournament concept evolve, what with all the tricky little snags & such that had to be dealt with.  I know if I tried to run it I'd be back on Prozac & Xanax again.  pr

First, it's not too late to join us!  We still need two people!  What are ya, chicken?  Bawk bawk!

Thanks again for all the support and if Johnny had anything to do with it thanks to him.  I admit this is more work than I thought but so far it's been well worth it.  One of my core beliefs is that every human has selfish reasons for everything he does and I'm certainly no exception so let's all keep that in mind, okay?  Not that it's a bad thing.
Anyway, I'm confident I'll be putting up a Bracket 2 voting thread sometime Sunday at the latest but be prepared that the voting deadline will be shorter than it was for Bracket 1's first round.  Most people had their votes in the first 3-4 days then had to wait for the procrastinators so the official deadline will probably be Wednesday although if you need more time you'll be able to pm me and get more time.  Thanks again all.

Claude, Just wanted to thank you for taking on this task.  You are helping to keep this site interesting and this is an excellent way for people to get to know each other better.  I would hope that this competition could go on for awhile.  There are lots of people on this site who only visit this messageboard section.  This effort could possibly get more people to "misheard lyrics" who didn't even know that this part of the site existed.  Who knows, it may even bring in a few more writers.

Thanks dude.

Pat, "Misheard Lyrics" refers to the clickable target on the right side of the grey box atop this page next to "Messageboard Archives".  Clicking on this target gets you to the home page where parody submissions are posted.  I was just trying to plug our favorite part of this site.  ;-)

And oh yeah, also thank Claude for his efforts.  ::)
