5  Jeff Reuben  (4.48)      Free Parking

         vs.

6  Earl S. Garber  (4.45)      Nerd City
lyrics

Just two more matchups to go; the winner of this will face the winner of Bracket 2 for all the beans (all right, there's no beans).  I truly appreciate the folks who've paid attention and voted promptly in every round; I'd look like a total idiot without you so thanks.  Just two songs to look at this time so let's go for a Wednesday night deadline; please please please get me a winner by then so we can wrap up the final vote by the time I leave for vacation this weekend.  Thanks again.

I posted comments for both Jeff's "Free Parking" and Earl's "Nerd City" in the Bracket 1 Round Three Voting Thread, so I won't repeat those comments here...

...as I cast my final Bracket 1 vote for...

...6 Earl S. Garber's "Nerd City" !

Congratulations Earl !

After Chris Pythila's "3.14159/Pi", Jeff's "Free Parking" is my all-time most favorite AmIRight parody.  So I HAVE to vote for #5, even though Earl's kicked butt too.

If I was up against Johnny D, I would have had to vote for his.  My co-workers thought I had lost it when I read it and laughed for half a minute (of course they already know I'm crazy, but this just proved it!)

Thank you, Earl - that's wonderful to hear!

Your "Nerd City" is, quite simply, a brilliant howler - I've been a geek all my life, and your parody puts a major smile on my face!

I hope "Nerd City" wins... It's a perfect parody-mirror-image of the original song's story about how totally cool guys effortlessly attract totally cool gals...LOL !

I'm going with 5, Free Parking...but Nerd City is excellent as well.

I read and listened to them both again and after much meditated thought I have made a decision.

"Nerd City"

Although while both made me laugh, nerd city made me laugh more.

Sorry I missed the voting for the last round - I've been working on-site for the last week and a bit.  On the bright side, my broadband at home's turned up, so I'll be able to get on-line at a decent speed from home :-)

Anyway, being a nerd rather than a monopoly player, I'll have to go for #6

Phil

5. Because I like it more, but also because I'll be pissed off if the one I lost to in the first round wins the contest ;D.

By my count, it's tied 6-6 with Mike Armstrong, Jack Wilson, and Mike Florio yet to vote.  I'm still assuming Joelle is long gone so I'm not planning on voting unless I have to.  First one with eight votes wins the bracket.  If we're still missing votes by noonish tomorrow I will ask for people from the other bracket to fill in (starting with myself, I guess).  Our Bracket 2 winner is already decided and ready to go for the Final Vote which I hope will begin tomorrow with everyone from both brackets voting.

Still waiting for our three MIA's.  At this point I'd like to ask for a couple voters from Bracket 2 to come help out.  I'm about to go myself and reread and vote so I just need two more (probably no Duncans though, to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest).  I thank you in advance for your support.

I've been hoping that someone else would step in here, but I'm not going to make Claude wait any longer.

6   Nerd City!

Both parodies were very good, with a lot of funny lines, but I gave Nerd City degree of difficulty points primarily because it required rhyming.

We're back! After five days of Com-pletelyincompetent-cast hell. We owe you votes and reads, and many thank you's for a very entertaining and supportive contest. I think as a thank you to Claude, I will offer to record one of his songs and post it. How 'bout it Claude?, Name a few, and I'll pick one we can do. "Pee Our Test" would be very hard. Give me a few others.

Thank you John.  That makes it official; we now have both brackets completed with just the final vote between the two to go which everyone should vote on.  I will post the voting thread now.

Holy crap are you serious?  I'm gonna have to think about this for a few; I'll let you know later today.
Meanwhile, everyone who participated should go to the Final Showdown Voting Thread and get this thing over with.  Thanks Rick.

All right, I've thought about it.  I'm horrible at figuring out what would sound good but here are a few from the pile I thought of as possibilities:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thewho12.shtml
http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/willienelson3.shtml
http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/theassociation7.shtml
http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/buffalospringfield1.shtml
http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/bobseger11.shtml

If none of these seem plausible, there's a bunch more I picked out.  Also, if there's any way a quick rewrite would be possible that would be ideal.  Thank you very much.

Hope you have a good vacation Claude, and when you do come back, maybe we can try this bracket thing again, it's been a blast :)

We could do any of those, Claude. My favorites were The Buffalo Springfield and the Who. Bob Seger always annoys me, though. One of my favorites you didn't include is "Bungee Cord" Think up a few more, pick one, or leave it to us. I'm not hurting my throat for Bob, though.

Yeah, I wasn't big on the Bob Seger one; mostly the title amuses me.  I think I'll just leave it to you guys; I actually had the Bungee cord one in my pile too though.  I'm just thrilled you're willing to do this at all so thanks again.

I'm not sure I'll be running a bracket-style one again anytime soon but I'd probably participate if someone else did.  I do have an idea for a monthly contest that would be a lot simpler, though.  I have some stuff written out and I think I'll just post it as a separate thread to see what everyone thinks.
