Subject: ABCs of Parodies competition: Round "A"

Written By: Ethan Mawyer on 03/26/04 at 07:36 p.m.

See my "low maintenance parody competition" thread for the rules. Anyway, for my first entry i'm neglecting the 23 "A" parodies at the top of my list and going with "The absent minded mad scientist" to coldplay's "the scientist"

Haha... glad I never actually got around to working on that, because that exact idea was going through my head a couple weeks ago, and I might not have remembered to check if it'd been done already ;-).

Anyway, faced with a choice between a song that might theoretically be offensive to someone and a song that's probably not funny to non-college-students, I chose the latter.

This is our only "A" parody:

Al Qaeda's on the Run

to the tune of "Take It On The Run" by REO Speedwagon.

I'll try it.  What happens if we don't have a parody to a certain letter?  I do to this one, however.

To Procul Harum's "Conquistador"

the midi is here:http://www.team-ict.com/midi/21/21.shtml

just scroll down to conquistador

either sit the round out or try to write one before that letter comes up. There are 25 rounds (no X) so you should have plenty of opportunities

Still a little fuzzy on the details, but I'm game assuming it's not some huge voting commitment.

Crap! I hate you! One of my favorite older parodies with only 3 votes on it starts with X! And I totally would have won that one, too! ;-)

EDIT: Wow, I wasn't paying attention, apparently. Fixed the homophome error.

Well, I'm skipping over "Are You Insultin' My Swing? (The Paranoid Golf Pro)" and "A Boob At The Half" because they have gotten a whole lot of recent attention anyway and going with "Andy Was A Fine Cop (Mayberry R.I.P.)"

Perhaps parodies beginning with "X" should be grouped with whatever letter in the alphabet is the next LEAST used in the Parody titles...I'm not sure what that would be????  Or maybe we SHOULD have a contest for "X" and see if those of us without any in that group (At least I don't THINK I have any starting with "X"???) can come up with anything competitive to challenge the young man.  Hey! I'm starting to LIKE those silly little "whatchamacallits" with the faces that you can conjure up with certain keystroke combinations...Just last week in the Tournament I shoo'ed them off like bothersome children!!!!

Hmm... only 21 to choose from ;)

Much as I'd like to use this one, I think "The Duke of Plaza-Toro" is probably a bit too obscure for most people... has probably had enough exposure as it is... so I'm going to go with:

A Techie's Lot

Thank you Phil for providing that midi.

One of my biggest challanges in entering something like this is that I want to do justice to everyone's parodies and so far there were four songs submitted that I was not familiar with. I managed to download three with ease, but the fourth...well, I won't say who's it was but let's just say it took me a septillion-trillion-gadzillion tries before I found a copy that wasn't f***ed up (and 90% were) and that copy took me about 4 hours to download... ::)

I would like to enter:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/simongarfunkel2.shtml

Arthur Andersen, a parody of Mrs. Robinson

... and in the current voting climate, you might wonder about a parody that has 27 votes and only one commenter.  This was one of the first parodies that I submitted on 12/2/02 and I initially forgot to enable comments.  At first, I did not want to trouble ChuckyG about fixing it for me, but I asked him (and he fixed it) about 6 months later.

However, if you don't know Queen's "We Are the Champions" because you haven't seen ANY hockey movie ever, let me know and I'll come to your house with a copy of 'Mighty Ducks'. We'll watch it together. And Ethan, good luck with the administrative stuff.

I'd rather have each round start on friday and the voting for the previous round end the same day... it just seems easier that way. But feel free to look at the songs submitted as they come

Spaff,  Ooohh,  I loved that one.  Cracked me up BIG TIME.  This round is gonna be a tough one to pick, but it should be a lot of fun. What I like about this more than the "March Madness" is that it doesn't involve the head-on-head matches. It's easier for me to say, "Parody 22 is the best of these" than to say "Author WX's parody is better than Author YZ's work".
