Subject: i'm finally putting recordings online

Written By: Ethan Mawyer on 04/06/04 at 10:43 p.m.

after constantly not being able to find a website service that i could understand enough to put audio files of my parodies on it... i finally found one in soundclick.com. I need to wait a day to get approved and then hopefully they'll be online and maybe even make it over to the amiright recordings section.

As you know, Soundclick is what we use. I recommend it to people with recordings. I've been mulling over how to record and produce things with people who want to do their own singing, but who live far away. The method I've been advocating is to let me record something, send it to whoever, then they have to fill in the vocal and post it. But It may work well the other way. If you can sing on pitch and in rhythm, perhaps a "bare vocal " could be sent to me to overdub music. If you can play guitar/piano at all, put that on one side of a stereo recording, with the vocal on the other. If the guitar sucks, I can still get rid of it and keep the vocal. If you happen to be good, I can keep and mix both. Or put one of those prerecorded versions on one side. Any way you can do it, I'm open to anything that might be funny to do and fun for us. I'll post a thread for this later.

i figure if people will pay to hear william hung sing cover songs then maybe i've got a chance with actual original material...  maybe i'm just making excuses but i think with k-mart i was much more concerned with timing than sounding good

I'm looking forward to hearing these, Ethan.

And if anyone doesn't take advantage of RAD's generous offer, you're crazy.

how do these tracks minus vocal work... would the vocals have to be in a recording studio or would it work on the computer? I would definitely be interested in those it would probably save a lot of legal trouble if i tried to sell anything.

I don't record with a computer, but many people do these days. There are plenty of programs you can buy to do just that. Some come with all kinds of pre performed tracks that you can sing over. What I was discussing goes either way. You have a track that you buy, sample or someone performs. Load into one of these programs, plug a mic into youyr sound card, and sing away. Then mix vocal in burn mp3, and post on sound click. Isn't that how you did the ones you posted? What I proposed works in reverse. Put crappy prebought music track on left side of stereo, singing on right, burn wave disc or mp3 and send it to me. Then I see if I can add real instruments, bass, drums, keys, and mix it better than the prebought. This is not for everyone, because some may not agree with my musical taste. But it's an option I'm willing to try. Because Mari and I are a team, we can offer backups from all the sexes.
