Subject: Your Worst Stuff?

Written By: agrimorfee on 06/22/04 at 10:28 am

So inspired by the "Your Best Stuff" thread, what about your worst?  Share your disappointments, your sucky stuff, the fragments that you are too embarrassed to submit or even talk about.

In the '80s, I tried too hard sometimes.
"Home Dusters" ("Ghostbusters"--hell, EVERYONE tried to write a parody of that, and most of them sucked.  Mine was a cleaning service--"Are you seeing dust--collecting on the floor?Think you better call--Home Dusters!...We cost less than...most dusters! I ain't 'fraid a' no dust!" Hahaha.)

"Extra Strength Tyleonol" ("Abracadabra"--a topical item, around the time folks were getting killed by poison-laced capsules of the product. "Ex-tra, Strength Ty-le-nollll..is gonna reach out and kill ya."  Poor taste)

"Ron & Nancy" ("Jack & Diane"--...a little ditty about Ron & Nancy, two young Republicans growing up in the Heartland/Ronny's gonna be the President/Nancy well, she will be the First Lady". Uh, yeah.)

"Hey Bob" ("She Bop"--A private joke about my brother, who would be outside playing and my mother would have to shout outside for him to come home for dinner..."Hey Bob, I'm here calling for ya, where in the heck are ya...")

there are a few parodies i submitted here that i don't really like and neither do other people but i think they should stay buried in my giant parody list

"Pukin' It On The Streets" ... makes me nauseous when I read it, even though I wrote it.

"50 Ways To Slowly Torture" ... wrote it, then changed my mind ... creeped myself out.

"The Battle of The New Amiright" ... I forgot to parody the original verse "They ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles (etc)" ... oh well ...

"Michael ( You're A Fright )" .... Michael Jackson never owned The Elephant Man's bones, so my reference to that adds a certain bogosity to the parody.

"Sick of Bohemian Rhapsody" ... too self-absorbed ... but it's got a few good lines!

I wrote one called "Me and Jesus Masturbate, Eat Babies Alive, and Squeeze Out Turds onto Your Favorite Band, Sports Team, Political Party, Flag, and Mother. So F*** You."

I can't figure out why people don't like it.

Oh, and it's to the tune of "The Macarena."

Ironically, my most-voted on parody is the one people hate the most--Lord of the Rings (All the Small Things): http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/blink18223.shtml

Also, I don't really like:

Combination Lock (Jenny From the Block)
http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/jlo3.shtml

Chinese Food (Scar Tissue)
http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/redhotchilipeppers8.shtml

Overplayed (Beautiful)
http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/christinaaguilera10.shtml

And there's a lot more.. I'll let you decide for yourself..

I'm so embarrassed! :-[

We're not ashamed to admit it. Of our two songs, that one is the worse of the two. But then again, when your other is THE BEST PARODY ON THE SITE {see other message board} it's hard to not be worse then it. Okay, now all that's left to do is get EthanM and Philbo in here to whine some more.

I'm not signing my name, either. Screw you.

And yes, I am arrogant. Want another gratuitous insult?

You want me to start with the crap I've put aside without even trying to finish?  Or should I start with the crap I've actually posted?  Either way, too many to mention.

I firmly believe it's all productive, though.  Take the process as far as it goes, and even if it doesn't yield something useful at the time, I think the process stirs ideas that may someday contribute to a masterpiece.  Still waiting...

"Zwooba Man" (obscure subject, pacing was off)
"Tongbashing (Forgot several parts)
"Post Busters" (just ugh)

If I don't like it, it don't get posted: I've got a dozen or more like that... possibly the only one on the site that I must have changed my mind over (or my standards were that much lower then) is:

O.S.A.M.A. (to D.I.S.C.O. by Ottawan)

There are a couple that other people seem to think are that bad, but I could never work out why.. maybe that should be another thread "your most underrated song"

I'm damn proud of my first parody to this site: Eminem's 'Lose Yourself', but since all of the rhymes basically make a warped autobiography only close friends would be 'in' on the jokes.

As for bad feedback regarding racism, wack on your white hoods and toddle along to:

oh, well, off the top of my head:

"Ralph Nader" to the tune of "Around the world" by the RHCP

"Albert the big sore loser" to the tune of "Rudolph the Red nose reindeer"

"Canadian quarter" to the tune of "American women"

"Dont you like my boobies" to the tune of "Dont you want me baby"

"paper boy" to the tune of "Sk8ter Boi"

"Sammy Davis eyes" to the tune of "Bette Davis eyes"

Basically all my early stuff - things like
http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/backstreetboys19.shtml
http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/tlc4.shtml
http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/backstreetboys20.shtml

I really obviously didn't know what I was doing at that point. Though I think http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/smashmouth6.shtml came out somewhat well, given that it was written during the same period. Still bad, but better than the others.

and

Stalagmite

1.  Buy and Buy to Live's "I Alone" -- stands as proof that pacing is more than just syllable count.  The line "I am a wo-man" to "I alone love you" is uncomfortably forced into the cadence of the melody.  Unfortunately, my mind's ear didn't catch that it was stilted until after it went up -- it's bothered me ever since.

2.  Plunder to NIN's "Closer" -- purposely not my best work.

3.    Living to Tommy Roe's "Dizzy" -- For some reason, I remembered the original being longer than it is... and I had the whole story mapped out and almost completely written in my mind before I grabbed the disc to tighten the pacing and get it typed up. Without the resolution I'd had in mind (I actually had two possible endings in mind and the resolve was the only part I hadn't fleshed out in my head, yet,)  the narrator doesn't necessarily come across to the reader as the harmless, sympathetic character he is.  I feel like I let the guy down... which sounds a little screwy, since he's a  fictional character, but he is meant to represent an amalgam of real people who work very hard to barely keep their heads above water.

Interesting question.  I'll have to look over my list and see what I come up with.  Now I have some I HAVEN'T submitted that would certainly qualify,  but that's why I didn't submit them.  Of course there are some that I LOVE that I haven't submitted, but that's a whole other subject...

Nathans Thong http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/fountainsofwaine0.shtml was my worst.  It was partly (and I'm talkin' like the smallest chunk) a true story.  The only person who liked it was the person who knows me (and nathan) personaly.  It was kind of just a thing to get the kid mad.  But believe me, that kid has gotten worse.

My Other one was http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/silverchair6.shtml

In high school, I created "Hail the Periodic Table", where the singer recited the periodic table of elements (in order of increasing atomic number) to "We Didn't Start the Fire".  The refrain was

  Hail the periodic table
Were it not for these there would be no world turning
  Hail the periodic table
Were it not for these we would not exist

It's not often that you hear the word "dysprosium" in a song.

In case you were wondering, I was in a chemistry class at the time :)

Oh, goodness.  There's just so many of them...and honestly.  All the ones I wrote between July 2003 and, say, Jan. 2003 are Chuck.  You can check them out for yourself if you're really that interested.
