Subject: T-shirt design #2 - PLEASE VOTE

Written By: ChuckyG on 02/01/05 at 4:05 pm

Somebody better push a bag into your face
Here we are now, mashed potatoes
Hit me with your pet shark
Eyes shut, the sheriff
The sound of Simon
Hello Douglas, my old friend
She's in a hut, an invisible hut, yeah
Lou Zing my religion
But the chair is not my son
I'm just a sailor with a rock in my bag
Scare a moose! Scare a moose! Will you do the fan tango?
There's a bathroom on the right
I've got shoes - they're made of plywood
Alex the seal
Who let the hog shout?
Looking for my log shaker and saw
Goodbye, normal genes
Somebody's done somebody's song wrong
Thirty thieves and the Thunder Chief
Lock the Cash Bar
It's just a sprinkling for to make wings
I had some dreams there were clowns in my coffee
Gangster's pair of dice
Lou's in my religion
I'm the God of Velveeta, baby

These are the top 25, that I liked.  I won't use them all.  I'm not even sure how many I'm going to use yet.  A quick mockup shows 25 would fit almost exactly at 24pt font on an 8x11 page, which is close to the size of the area of the t-shirt.  So maybe 15 - 20 once I add more whitespace. I think I ended up pulling one or two from everyone that suggest one, if I didn't use one of the ones you suggested, well, sorry, it's not a contest >grin<

So, without looking them up, tell me which of the above you COULDN'T guess.  You can also alternately tell me which you think are just plain dumb.

I'm laughing at myself, too. But that's just cuz I just find myself so darn witty.

Ones I like are in order of preference, shown in green.
Ones I can't figure out are in red. Note this is from a teenage Aussie, so ignore ocmpletely.
Ones I can figure out but find stupid are in blue.

I didn't realise you were planning to put a list of 10-20 misheards on one shirt.  I, personally, would prefer just one line per t-shirt and may be have a choice of three or four. :-\\

Heh heh. Gotcha, Stuart. The OS doesn't say "sprinkling." Here are some other misheard versions of the same line:
It's just a sprinkling for the bakery
It's just a sprinkling for the bake queen

And I'm not sure how we left out "Give me the Beach Boys" - seems like everyone mishears that one.

My faves of those:

Somebody's done somebody's song wrong

that's the reason I picked it.  My wife didn't even know this song, which I find shocking, since she's usually the one who tells me what stuff from the 60s and 70s is.  Actually, I usually just can't place the name of certain performers, I recognize a lot of songs.

it's the only country cross over on the entire list.  Either country doesn't make for good misheards, or no one suggested any.  I want at least a few non-rock songs... a healthy spread of 60s-2000s stuff, a little rap, a little country mostly pop/rock.

I full on apologize for not submitting these sooner, but I haven't been paying attention until today.  So please feel free to ignore me, or yell at me.  Whichever you see fit.  But I couldn't NOT throw them into the ring!

Two of my all time favorite misheard lyrics are:

"Lets give them something from Taco Bell."

Bonnie Raitt's "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About."

And
"All the boys think she's a spaz."

Which is "All the boys think she's a spy" from Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes."

Otherwise, they're all great.  I especially liked "Somebody's done somebody's song wrong."

I should have qualified it with "I haven't proof checked these, this off the top of my head".  No matter, I'll update the post with these and Johnny D's.

My vote goes to:

Somebody's done somebody's song wrong

I chose this one over the others because of its dual purpose as both a content description and an example of a misheard.

Favourites would have to be:

Here we are now, mashed potatoes
Hit me with your pet shark
Hello Douglas, my old friend

..and especially:
Scare a moose! Scare a moose! Will you do the fan tango?

But no, I don't think there were any I didn't know.  Though I thought "There's a bathroom on the right" was the real lyric... ;)

My favorites:

She's in a hut, an invisible hut, yeah

I'm the God of Velveeta, baby

Thirty thieves and the Thunder Chief

Scare a moose! Scare a moose! Will you do the fan tango?

There's a bathroom on the right

Here we are now, mashed potatoes

Hit me with your pet shark

I'm just a sailor with a rock in my bag

Goodbye, normal genes

Somebody's done somebody's song wrong

Gangster's pair of dice

Lou's in my religion

The others were very weird.

And to broaden it out, I'd like to add two misheard lyrics to get some more country in there (though I am not fond of country  :P)

I miss my pretty foul lime

and

The Almighty Dollar, roll over in food

no, I haven't had the time to whip them up yet.  If all goes as planned, I might have my home improvement stuff significantly completed by this weekend, which will give me some time to do other stuff again.

just about.  I kept it wrapped up tight with lots of Neosporin, and after a week or so, it was almost totally healed.  Which I find amazing, since it's was around 1/8" of an inch all around.  I've had paper cuts that seem to take longer to heal than that.
