Subject: I need a word

Written By: MysteryGoat on 08/19/06 at 12:48 am

I need a one syllable word that means the same as 'screwed' but less, shall we say, offensive. Any help is appreciated.

Screwed, as in screwed up? How about "beat" or "messed"? ???

Screwed as in 'got screwed over by my wife' . ;)  However, beat actually sounds like it may work, I'll have to think on that for a bit.

Thanks a lot.

No problem. ;)

It was the best I could think of.

Now that you use it in context, maybe "creamed" might be another possibility? You can use beat if you can't think of anything better.

Ok, here's the line I'm trying to work with;

"MP3 killed the music exec"

Killed was rather inappropriate for the verses, so I went with screwed but I was hoping to find a word that was less harsh. So far 'beat' is the best fit. If you got anymore ideas I'd like to see them, but beat is the winner right now.

Well...I'm not sure that "beat" would make sense if substituted for "killed" in that sentence, cuz' "beat" could mean a number of different things. I'd go with one of FussBudget's suggestions (but not 'done'; that's not a past tense).

Screwed is actually the perfect word for it, I just wanted something softer. Duped and tricked isn't the right word, and stuffed just doesn't sound right at all  ;D . I guess if all else fails I'll go with screwed.

I was always partial to the word: "Bonked" it sounds funnier than screwed

LOL! Why didn't I think of that?

You're right; bonked does sound funnier than screwed. I wonder if MysteryGoat will consider it.
