Subject: Devil Glitch (longest song group parody) Official Entry Thread

Written By: agrimorfee on 06/25/07 at 1:04 pm

OK. let's see if we can make this happen now.

In a previous thread (http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=26664.0), I discussed the world's longest pop song "The Devil Glitch" and the possibilities for an Amiright multiple-authored parody.

Ann "Wildcard" Hammond has expressed interest, and some people have added some lines. Can this be finished somehow?

To participate:

1. View the song lyrics at the link above, pick a verse by its number--take as many as you would like.
2. Stake your claim on these verses by posting your completed verse, and the numbers you took, here. Please do not claim verses without completing them!
3. Monday through Friday, I will update the standings by viewing the posts here, and try to list what verse numbers are available, and which have been claimed.

It should be simple enough, but I am sure there are many different problems that I have not thought of. If you post questions or objections or suggestions here, I will try to update the rules as needed.

In the other thread, I shot around the concept of the parody to be an examination of parody writing, where parody authors can speak about how they write parodies, or comment on parodies they have written. We already have a couple verses, which I will take the liberty of posting as our starting points. But....Let's not worry about making a consistently-themed parody, let's just try to bring this exquisite corpse to life!

Tally of completed "Verses":

He gets to have Verse #1, since he was the first to contribute. (He was joking, however, when he added "...and repeat it for 69 minutes.")

Red Ant wrote:

Sometimes you can parody a very overdone song
Like Avril Lavigne's 'Complicated'

Sometimes you can parody it but it comes out wrong
Like those 20+ 'Constipated's

Sometimes you think better of doing something done before
'cause that idea's 'Duplicated'

At times you think that Avril is such a freakin' bore
And that we're oversaturated

Let's make this Verses 11-14 because they all go together and fit in the "sometimes" scheme, unless Red Ant responds here with any objections.

I wrote:
sometimes you can parody the band Pink Floyd
Because the fans do need education

I will claim this as #2 since I am in charge. :)

Ann wrote:
Sometimes when I'm watering I have Kinks in the hose
It's a Sunny afternoon

Verse #5

Ann also wrote:
15 broke down, lifeless               Dust blown, Wind mass
junkyard worthless                     Not in Kansas
no tweezer jesus in the house     A twister seized us gone is house

16 so desperate
so dependent
pay any price to dope it out

17 i want genius                            Talk to genius
i wanna suss                                   He wants to fuss
the perfect kluge, the devil glitch   Oh perfect! fudge! the broom of witch

18 oh, hosanna
socket messiah
the only jesus worth a sheesh

She can claim those if she still wants them, and decides what should be the "official version."

And Ann wrote:
Belly botton
Navel action
Let's navel gaze man she's no joke

Now figure eighty
Shimmy heiny
If I bend like that I'd choke

This would seem to be verses 3 & 4.

Look at that, we have 10 verses already!

Spaff claimed #22 (jokingly) and Rex claimed #21 (to top Spaff). If you guys want it, shout it out!

:-D  If I'm getting verse 1, can I add the rhyming verse 2, too:

1. Sometimes you can cheat when you write a parody
Providing endless duplication

2. Sometimes it's easier to do that, apparently
When you lack inspiration

Hey Ann, it wasn't until I got home yesterday that I realized the real word that ends the OS verse is not "sheesh" but the 4-letter epithet that rhymes with "spit" which the board auto-censors.  :D Don't know if you want to change the lyric knowing this info, but go ahead and revise it if you wish.

EDIT: Seriously, let's give them a week...after 7/16, it's up for grabs.

I'm not surprised that the actual word is something else.  I can edit this and I'll be doing a lot of thinking tomorrow before I get put to sleep for my surgery.  If the hole in my right ear stays closed this time I'll have a much better chance of hearing people. :)

7.  So still and yet moves poetic
Just the hand for the magic touch

8. Who that player?

Thought the wizard had gone to lunch

9. Not professional?
Wizards professional
He’ll make a frog prince out of you

10 Back from the contraptions
You take the game crown and you’re through

This verse should leave the door open for many followups:

#23 Sometimes you can parody an American Pie
With so many substitutions

Ann has reminded me about this on-going, possibly never-ending project.  :D

To make this bump worthwhile, here is a nice preview of the work cut up into little pieces at the amazon.com page (scroll down, hit each button as you wish, or Play All) . This is especially good if you are unable to use Real Audio.

Today I am going to post the previous results as a 'A Roomful OF Monkeys" amiright.com entry before this thread dies. Perhaps this will generate a renewed interest in the project, perhaps not. Either way...
