Subject: Medieval Parodies -or- How To Filk
Written By: HawkTheSlayer on 12/03/07 at 1:14 pm
In the SCA, when one adapts a modern song to fit SCA/Period times, it is called "filking".
I would love to see if there is anyone out here, who can do some effective ones.
I can show examples of my own filks, if so desired, to give you an idea.

Paging Johnny D? ???
What is SCA?
Please give us some examples. I thought "filk music" was simply traditional-sounding folk music married with sci-fi themes.

The SCA is a Medieval re-enactment group, known worldwide for its historical accuracy.
The time periods represented are 600-1600 A.D.
The following website will help you to learn more: www.sca.org
As for examples, I can submit titles of the following:
SCAvian Events: Boot To the Head- Purpure Frog Style
Event Fever! (done to Buckner & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever")
No More Beer (done to Ozzy Osbourne's "No More Tears")
Dirty Deeds Done With Sheep (done to AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds")
Period Events: The Maiden On the Hill (written in French Troubadour style)
Clontarf Fallen (written in Middle English, Saor File style)
I will see if I can get actual documents posted here.
