Subject: ONE WEEK NOTICE "Feel It Still" (for November 17th publishing date)

Written By: Matthias on 11/09/17 at 9:08 am

Welcome to the Friday November 10 to Friday November 17 round of the One Week Notice challenge.

My name is Matthias, I'll be your host.

The core of One Week Notice is this: We all write parodies of the same original song - and then we post them on the same day! The song chosen ideally should be one that has not been already parodied on Amiright, and should also be of reasonable difficulty and length (I'm hosting a separate thread for general discussion about that part, see the messageboard and feel free to join in - or even better - sign up to host a round yourself!)

http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=56105.0

As things have evolved we're working on a From Friday To Friday basis. The host picks an original song and posts about it in a new messageboard thread on the first friday (or Thursday evening) and those who want to participate have one week to create a parody of it. All those parodies of the same song are then submitted to go on the next week's Friday's publishing date on Amiright (barring acts of God/Site Mods).

This challenge is not a contest judging for quality. No points are awarded. Constructive criticism is encouraged, but we have no strict rule or requirement for everyone to even read each parody and/or leave comments. Obviously that's an important part of the whole thing, but you won't get bashed if life gets in your way. The whole thing is done in the spirit of flexing our parody writing "muscles" and to grow back the spirit of camaraderie within the Amiright community. The host of a round must provide a link to the original song's lyrics (or post them in his/her host post, like I'm doing here below), a link to a YouTube video of the song (or an equivalent thereof) and information about what year the song was first released (to allow for the submission form on Amiright).

With that said, here's my new One Week Notice (or OWN, as we've begun to abbreviate it) for Friday November 10 to Friday November 17. We've had some unusual artists that haven't gotten much airplay, some mainstream artists that have had hits many years ago BUT TODAY I bring you a unusual artist that is currently getting a lot of airplay in fact they are currently sitting at number 6 on the Billboard Top 100. Although they've been around for 10+ years nobody has touched a single one of their songs yet (In fact I never knew about these guys until recently). Their song has been featured in various advertisements here in the states: Apple iPad Pro, Vitamin Water, and YouTube TV, and in the first trailer for the 2018 film Peter Rabbit.

Can't keep my hands to myself
Think I'll dust 'em off, put 'em back up on the shelf
In case my little baby girl is in need
Am I coming out of left field?

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

Got another mouth to feed
Leave it with a baby sitter, mama, call the grave digger
Gone with the fallen leaves
Am I coming out of left field?

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I been feeling it since 1966, now
Might've had your fill, but you feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

We could fight a war for peace
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
Give in to that easy living
Goodbye to my hopes and dreams
Start flipping for my enemies
We could wait until the walls come down
(Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now)
It's time to give a little to the
Kids in the middle, but, oh until it falls
Won't bother me

Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming?
Is it coming back?

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, yeah
Your love is an abyss for my heart to eclipse, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
I've been feeling it since 1966, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now
Let me kick it like it's 1986, now
Might be over now, but I feel it still
Might've had your fill, but I feel it still

1. "Deal Some Pills" (About a guy who really needs his fix of prescription pills)
2. "Reel In Gills" (Fishing)
3. "Over The Hill" (Old man)
4. "Feel The Drill" (Dentistry)
5. "Write With A Quill" (Prefers to use quill pens)
6. "Feel The Quills" (Porcupine attack)

8. "Squeal Is Shrill" (Horror movie/ Bad driving)

"Keelhauled Still"

Ha-Ha, I see what you did there! ::)

At the mill // Take your pill! // Sitting still // Better chill // Do the drills // Up the hill // Fourty kills // In my will // I'm so ill // fudge this bill! // ...

A title switch for starting point seems easy enough :)

Hopefully easier than Peer Gunt. :)

It should be. It's a pop song.

"FEEL HIS QUILLS" is the one that I'm going to work on about a crazy guy going into the forest and messing with the wildlife...

Be warned. This song is pretty tricky to work on. Didn't realize it at first (or I wouldn't have chosen it) but this is one that you want to donate some time to working on.

God morning again everybody! I'm gonna try this thing Matty's doing and tell you what I'm working on, there's probably only a fifty percent I'll fully end up there anyway, and I've come to like the brainstorming phase in these threads, so why not. As for title I've no clue yet, because "Feel it still" is not really the central line of the original song.

Here's where I'm at, with a parody planned to be about one of my running/jogging excursions gone horribly wrong:

"Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now"
Oh no, I'm here lost out in the sticks now

Additional title idea for my English brothers and sisters:

"Benny Hill"

I'm also doing a song about a guy messing around in the sticks...

My "Feel His Quills" tune is completed and ready for Friday!

It'll be interresting to see if we use the same forest rhymes then, some possible overlap might come to exist since I've settled on the title "In the hills" - although my muse had me change to third person perspective and brought in an old movie to grab memes from on top of the boring (to everyone else) jogging.

I'm glad that a non-obscure song was finally chosen for this, so I will give it a shot.

With something different than the suggestions.

I was going to try to write it within the submission form, but then I realized it might take a bit more time than that.

That was my goal in picking this song out. I thought that the more obscure songs might scare off a few newbies from joining our cause.

Newbies, and me. Although I think I was more disinterested than intimidated.

Both songs I submitted for tomorrow have original songs which qualify for this challenge. I'm a little surprised so few did "All of Me", but "Rockabye" is less of a surprise.

@ Ethan: Can we ask you to host a round? December 8 is the next one available, but getting the sense you're in the zone right now I'll also offer to let you come in right away and choose November 17, i.e the round that starts on Friday THIS week, and I'll move out of there and take December 8 instead.

More info on Matthias thread here: http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=56105.0

@ Matthias: I'm thinking that maybe the "Here's where we stand right now" section could be lifted to the top of the guidelines/rules post - kinda sorta like an opening teaser for anyone reading it for the first time. You're doing a great job of constantly updating that part BTW - was that the idea from the start?

The only real writing I did today was for this song entry (which I just submitted). The other two were mostly finished a while ago.

I think I might need to wait a bit before hosting, especially since it looks like the post is supposed to go up on Thursday and my time is limited until Friday-Saturday-Sunday.

I saw your parody up on the main page today. You're supposed to submit the song on Thursday so it can appear with everybody else's on the same day.

Oh well... At least you did it and now you know better for the future

Well, I'm home early for a Thursday evening so I'm gonna submit mine --- AND start the next round here on the forums in a few minutes. Not a Scandinavian heavy metal or even ABBA track this time though.

Yeah, yesterday was crappy so I missed the deadline.  I suck.  It'll be posted Monday though, better late than never, since I've already put some effort in.

Guys, I just wanted to say that I LOVED the turn out on this tune...

You all did fantastic work and it was great to see people who normally don't get involved actually get involved here on this one...

1. Ethan Mawyer: "Heal Up, Jill" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman0.shtml
2. Agrimorfee: "Eat Them Still" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman1.shtml
3. Matthias: "Feel His Quills" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman2.shtml
4. Peter Andersson a.k.a K1chyd - "In The Hills" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman3.shtml
5. Claude Prez - "Conceal It Still" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman4.shtml
6. Below Average Dave- "Netflix And Chill (By Myself)" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman5.shtml
7. Jeff Reuben: "Cleaning Spills" - http://amiright.com/parody/2010s/portugaltheman6.shtml

(Hope to see you all in future installments... I think picking out a Billboard Hit really helped bring in the crowd here so I'll attempt to choose more songs along those lines)

As I've hinted I'm only interested in parodying songs I can record at this point.  As a karaoke host and video jockey, I like doing songs that I can perform live on occasion (some of my regulars have come to expect me to perform a random parody during the course of my karaoke shows).  This means, songs that people have heard of.  This song was already on my radar.  It's fresh, it's popular, and it's a gem in a chart that has been taken over by. . .well let's just say Cardi B is no Lil Kim.  I have nothing against everyone parodying whoever they choose, but my participation will depend on the song inspiring me, and my ability to record it.  Matthias--your song choice, literally, brought me out of quasi-retirement (5 years--that's quasi right?  or is that full out--I'm not sure)  I will not commit to weekly--both because of the aforementioned "inspiration" being required, and the reality of my life. . .but song choices like this AND posting it to the main amiright page increase my chance of participation immensely.

Oh and little secret on the 'quasi retirement' . . . even though I wasn't really releasing written work or recordings here (or elsewhere), I was still jotting random ideas down all five years and working here and there on a new website that will be parody oriented and meant to support writers and performers. . .not to mention I was still moderating the video/recording section of AmIRight every day during those five years-which is why people's performances still got posted.

i look forward to hearing more about your project.  8) Good to hear from you, and Good luck!

It's hard to deny the success rate here.  Well done.  That said, I'm not the one who's gonna carry on that particular momentum, though my choice should definitely be appealling to a different demographic.

Glad to see you back.  I feel what you're saying about recording and performing (although my version of Look What You Made Me Do would be lost on a crowd with the shout outs to this group).  One of the main reasons I'm getting active again, and hoping this helps...if I'm not writing, I'm obviously not recording or performing!

Wish you were closer, your karaoke show was a blast!
