Subject: AMIRIGHT REUNION CHALLENGE - March 16th - Green Green Day Day

Written By: c4p on 03/01/18 at 8:26 pm

This challenge originated in the TOP SECRET SONG PARODY FACEBOOK GROUP that everybody knows about.  The first one went really well, so we're going to start advertising here and on the front page so that people not in the group can participate as well.  Anyone with questions can leave them here or in the comment section of the Events Page notification.  Or in the comment section of one of my parodies, I'll definitely see that haha.  Okay.  So the main thing to know is that the parodies should appear on AmiRight on Friday, March 16th, so they should be submitted the day before that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever wish you could travel back in time to the Golden Age of AmiRight?  Well gas up your DeLorean, because we know exactly when lightning is gonna strike the clock tower!  On Friday, March 16th, a crapload of AmiRight blasts from the pasts will all be showing up back at their old stomping grounds for the GREEN GREEN DAY DAY CHALLENGE - In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the challenge is to parody any song by punk-pop legends Green Day, and make it about something green.  Like Kermit the Frog.  Or asparagus.  Or your beloved booger collection, it's really up to you.  Actually, that's gross.  Please nothing about asparagus.  But anything else is up for grabs, INCLUDING NOT FOLLOWING THE CHALLENGE PARAMETERS AT ALL.
See, the main point of the challenge is really the reunion aspect, where all these great authors pick two days a month (one near the middle and one at the end) to show up back here and resume the great camaraderie and encouragement that characterized this place back in the day.  So even if you're like "What the hell is Green Day"?  Or "Who the hell is Kermit the Frog"?  You can still write a parody about whatever the hell you want, show up, and know that there will most likely be an amazingly receptive  potential audience for your work, especially provided you're one of those brilliant people who understand that Golden Rule thing.  So have fun, good luck, and we'll see you there!
I vaguely remember that before I started the One Week Notice challenge thingy I might have suggested something like a Homecoming Event once a year - not being optimistic enough to think most of the old guard would wanna show up on a more regular basis than that - so kudos for this initiative, somehow herding those cats in one direction - and I hope it becomes a permanent thing. :)
The OWN, as fun as that has been, and a vessel for reinvigorating my writing, seems to have stalled at an average of 3,5 submissions a week. If my two regular comrades in arms there like me don't really have time to do both** I guess we're heading for a no-brainer choice of where to put the most effort - and if so I'll join them for this.
I probably won't join Evil Facebook though, they have no scruples at all when it comes to treating users top-down badly in non-english speaking countries (and on top of that the last person I know that did join them broke out in genital herpes already the very next day - I know because she told all her coworkers on Facebook and some of them told me in the break room).
**We're in a situation at my workplace where we're now ordered to work some extra hours on the weekend, so I'm one potential writing session a week down already.
Haha yes, I recall your saying something about designating a Homecoming day, I think - a good idea, but the big question was how to let all these people who hadn’t been here in like ten years know about it.  Embarrassed I didn’t even think of Facebook,but until this group I’d had an account for years but never ever used it.  I certainly understand people like you and Spaff not wanting to come to the dark side though, which is one of the reasons we decided to start advertising these challenges here.
One Week Notice was the only bright light in a dismal landscape here, and I really enjoyed the camaraderie.  Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy submitting parodies that I wasn’t very proud of, which is what wound up happening as often as not.  And was also one of the reasons I stopped participating (the other being the overwhelming negativity on the site, which was more work to ignore than I cared to do at the time).
But like I mention up above, knowing ahead of time that friendly folks will be active is useful information pertaining to OWN as well.  So even though I didn’t write a OWN parody this week, I did have a quickie parody I tossed into the monkey room for today, and plan to read and comment on any parodies that look interesting today, starting with the One Week Notice ones.  Hint hint.
Anyway, glad you don’t seem butthurt about all this, I probably would have been.
Fiddled around with a few different ideas BUT I finally have one that I'm happy with enough to debut on Saint Patrick's Day
Here's a hint... And the parody is to "American Idiot" which is a song that I wanted to parody for awhile but I couldn't come up with a good enough idea until NOW...
Put me down for "Brain Stew", definitely gonna do something with jade. Maybe "Jade View" or "Jade Dude" or something else, we'll see.
We don't have St. Patrick's Day Runs in Sweden - or not only would I probably be out there in the "Leprechaun Chase 10K" or "The Dirty Leprechaun" trailrace - I'd probably long ago would have written a list parody making up even better namnes, sort of a two subjects Venn Diagram overlap center parody idea of the sort I love to work on for a longer period of time. Ten days is to short (for me) on such a great subject under current conditions so I'll just throw it out here while I keep thinking about other possible ideas.
Had I been a greenhorn (pun totally intended) at this I would not have been able to join, but I've been writing parallell parodies before and are almost done now with both one for this and one for Agrimorfee's One Week Notice. The Hulk may not be Irish, but he sure is green!
