Subject: AMIRIGHT REUNION CHALLENGE - March 30th - Billy Joel's April Fool's Day

Written By: Matthias on 03/05/18 at 6:44 pm

This challenge originated in the TOP SECRET SONG PARODY FACEBOOK GROUP that everybody knows about.  The first one went really well, so we're going to start advertising here and on the front page so that people not in the group can participate as well.  Anyone with questions can leave them here or in the comment section of the Events Page notification.  Or in the comment section of one of my parodies, I'll definitely see that haha.  Okay.  So the main thing to know is that the parodies should appear on AmiRight on Friday, March 30th, so they should be submitted the day before that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever wish you could travel back in time to the Golden Age of AmiRight?  Well gas up your DeLorean, because we know exactly when lightning is gonna strike the clock tower!  On Friday, March 30th, a crapload of AmiRight blasts from the pasts will all be showing up back at their old stomping grounds for the BILLY JOEL'S APRIL FOOL'S DAY CHALLENGE - In honor of April Fool's Day, the challenge is to parody any song by the piano man: Billy Joel, and make it about something to do with April Fool's Day.  Like Prank Calls.  Or Whoopie Cushions.  Or getting splat in the face with a banana cream pie, it's really up to you. Anything is up for grabs, INCLUDING NOT FOLLOWING THE CHALLENGE PARAMETERS AT ALL.
See, the main point of the challenge is really the reunion aspect, where all these great authors pick two days a month (one near the middle and one at the end) to show up back here and resume the great camaraderie and encouragement that characterized this place back in the day.  So even if you're like "Who the hell is Billy Joel"?  Or "Who the hell is Bart Simpson"?  You can still write a parody about whatever the hell you want, show up, and know that there will most likely be an amazingly receptive  potential audience for your work, especially provided you're one of those brilliant people who understand that Golden Rule thing.  So have fun, good luck, and we'll see you there!
Stole Claude Prez work and changed a few words around (Basically how I passed High School) for Jeff Reuben's month end challenge in order to get people inspired to write for this one as well...
I have a few ideas for this one... I think I'm going to do a parody of "Piano Man" called "Banana Plan" about a guy tossing out banana peels for people to slip and fall on.
Haha nice changes!  One thing though is near the end of the first paragraph there's also a date that you may want to change.  Thanks!
A tender ballad about the inherent hilarity of flatulence? It could happen. Especially if I think "She's Got Whoopie Cushions" fits well into "She's Always a Woman". Stay tuned...
Matthias - You've written parodies for almost every big and minor holiday, probably including this one already. Do you know if there's an official word, term or slang word in the English speaking world for unofficial holidays like April Fools? I keep thinking that there is, that I've heard it somewhere, but I can't come up with it (and neither can google it seems, so I might be wrong).
Anyway - Canadians, Scots, Irish, Welsh, Ozzies, Kiwis, etc, etc are of course also welcome to answer.
No. They’re still called holidays even though they aren’t secular or bank holidays.
Merry & Pippin or John A Barry know a hell of a lot more words than me though so they might know.
I've figured out that the term I vaguely remembered was "common law holiday". Google currently gives just below a thousand hits for it, so it kinda falls where to be expected for a vague unofficial term methinks.
BTW: Happy Hangover Day all you Irish and Irish Traditions Supporters! ;)
Are you sure there's a front page update on the 30th?
This weeks kinda special, with Good Friday and all.
Over here everything's closed, and I don't have to work.
Don't know really how that works on your side.
That's mostly why I'm asking.
Good! Then I won't be alone on Monday. I just submitted "What is true (On this April day)" to "Where Were You (On Our Wedding Day)". Sorry for being late.
