Subject: ONE WEEK NOTICE: "Hey Girl" (Due 7/27/2018)

Written By: Matthias on 07/19/18 at 8:04 am

Welcome to the Friday July 20th to Friday July 27th (publishing date) round of the One Week Notice challenge. My name is Matthias, I'll be your host.

The core of One Week Notice is this: We all write parodies of the same original song - and then we post them on the same day! The song chosen ideally should be one that has not been already parodied on Amiright, and should also be of reasonable difficulty and length (Matthias is hosting a separate thread for general discussion about that part, see the messageboard and feel free to join in - or even better - sign up to host a round yourself!)

http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=56105.0

As things have evolved we're working on a From Friday To Friday basis. The host picks an original song and posts about it in a new messageboard thread on the first friday (or after the Thursday update on Amiright's front page if that's more convenient) and those who want to participate have one week to create a parody of it. All those parodies of the same song are then submitted to go on the next week's Friday's publishing date on Amiright (barring acts of God/Site Mods).

This challenge is not a contest judging for quality. No points are awarded. Constructive criticism is encouraged, but we have no strict rule or requirement for everyone to even read each parody and/or leave comments. Obviously that's an important part of the whole thing, but you won't get bashed if life gets in your way. The whole thing is done in the spirit of flexing our parody writing "muscles" and to grow back the spirit of camaraderie within the Amiright community. The host of a round must provide a link to the original song's lyrics (or post them in his/her host post, like I'm doing here below), a link to a YouTube video of the song (or an equivalent thereof) and information about what year the song was first released (to allow for the submission form on Amiright).

With all that said, here's the brand new One Week Notice challenge--

- I had to change this song because it didn't follow the rules. I think that "I Wanna Get Better" is a great song but it doesn't fit the parameters we put into place. It's not a rap song but it might as well have been because it's long and difficult to accomplish in the single week were allotted. Instead welcome to O.A.R. they are short for the name (Of A Revolution). They're a rock band from Rockville, Mayland known for their extensive summer touring. A fun band with a nice summertime beat to them.

It will be based on:
Song Title - "Hey Girl" (2003)
Artist - O.A.R.
Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFUqjmQ3Nn0

Lyrics:

I took this girl out last night and we left around twelve
We walked along lonely streets and got to know ourselves
I like to read, she likes to write
She likes to sleep and I love to stay up all night
My friends say I'm crazy, and I agree.
But that's OK, that the way I like to be.
Hey girl come with me and let yourself go
Hey girl come with me and let yourself go

We went out late last night and we danced through the night.
I was holding on to her and she was gripping me tight, she was.
But she didn't care, and I didn't mind.
I was unaware that she liked to act so kind.
My friends say I'm crazy and I agree
That's OK, that's the way I like to be
Hey girl come with me and let yourself go
Hey girl come with me and let yourself go
Just let yourself go

Hush little baby don't say a word
I'd like to give you everything that you deserve.
I'll give you my heart, give you all my soul.
You can ask for my money. If you like you can have control.
In my mind, I miss you every night that you're not here.
Oh, I just want to sit around your life and breathe your air.
And if I cannot have you, I just don't want to live.
Oh I got so much I'd like to give.
Hey girl come with me and let yourself go
Hey girl come with me and let yourself go

Just let yourself go
My baby, my darling
Just let yourself go
My baby, my darling
I need to know
My sweetie, my lovely
I'd love to let you go
But I'm coming back for you, and I'm walking through your door.

I've removed my comments about the first, no need for more reader confusion than necessary. ;)

Guessing you've already started writing something yourself Matty - if not it strikes me now that nr 20 might be close enough to use for "Wayne's World" - one for your longtime movies parodies project - two birds with one stone and all that.

"hurl" and "bird" and "curd" (as in lemon curd) and "nerd" and "word" are also words that fast comes to my mind for title sub starting point use.

That IS a great title sub BUT I never seen “Wayne’s World” before...

I’m thinking “SEAGULLS” about a flock of seagulls who ruin a tourist’s day at the beach

OR I might do “JAMES GUNN” which will allow me to write about my favorite subject... Bashing Disney!

Talked this over with Peter over the weekend. It seemed rather difficult to pull off in just a week.
I think this is a better choice. Easy to work with. Should bring in a good crowd -fingers crossed-
I already have my parody written and posted on my "Matt's Movie Madness" blog

Don't worry Agrimorfee, this new one has turned out to be much easier, mine's done too now already. Too bad you didn't get the memo over the weekend but Matty tried, I'd already gotten some work done on the old hard OS so I told Matty it felt pretty much a 50/50 situation to me, his call if no-one else weighed in.

The submission window is open!

Not giving away title or theme yet, but I expect mine to be hit with a record number of 111s and absolutely fuming comments from the multialiased troll that haunts the site on a daily basis. :P

It's because you didn't add the word Trump. :)

Submitted, but as always, not gonna tip my hat on the topic.

Well, the troll is usually predictably committed to his antics - maybe he was temporarily committed the other way!

But maybe I'm safe then - let's just say I'm continuing on a recent blue theme... :)
