Subject: MARCH 2004 SOTM VOTING
Written By: agrimorfee on 04/08/04 at 06:52:05

If it's not presumptuous, let's place votes here...

After much deliberation (and a close judgment to Spaff), Claude Prez' "Saw Kung Fu" gets my vote. ?8)

EDIT, AFTER EXPLANATION OF VOTING:
3 pts--Claude Prez
2 pts--Spaff
1 pts--Johnny D

Not presumptuous at all; I was hoping someone would start. ?A couple things, though: ?I've gathered the songs up to place in this thread for convenience. ?Also, we pick our three favorites and give 1 point to the third favorite, 2 points to the second favorite, and 3 points to the top favorite. ?So, here they are:

Even if we were allowed to vote for ourselves I will no longer do so. Spaff has gotten plenty of glory already from "Uranus", including from me. I thought about this hard, I'm glad we get to vote for three:

"Hello Phillip, Nice Armada" gets the 3 points.

"On the Joys of Burglary" the 2 points

"Dad Got Married" a strong 1 point.

I also loved GDR and MM

(Claude, MP3 to you first or post?)

I had no trouble with my #1 choice, but picking 2 and 3 was very hard as there were so many good ones.

1. John Jenkins - Hello Philip, Nice Armada  3 points

2. 2nz - Mr. Mafia Guy  2 points

3. Ethan Mawyer - Mr. Miracle Guy  1 point

I think the entries in this were, on the whole, stronger than the entries in the first round of ABC's. Which is impressive, since these were all done in the last month. Anyhoo, I'll go with:

Hello Philip, Nice Armada - 3 points
Dad Got Married - 2 points
Mr. Miracle Guy - 1 point

Spaff

I'd have liked to have been able to vote for five or six... anyway, my votes go as follows:

3 pints (oops, freudian typo) - #10 JJ Hello Phillip, Nice Armada
2 points - #16 Ethan Mawyer - Mr. Miracle Guy
1 point - #7 Rick Duncan - The Laker

I would love to have been able to give some points to Uranus, but it was just squeezed out.  So to speak.

Phil

Well, it was actually fairly easy for me to narrow it down to three. The harder part was deciding among those three which to give what number of points. My eventual decision:

3 points: to Ethan, with http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/donmclean46.shtml
2 points: to Jared, with http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/meredithbrooks6.shtml
1 point: to Johnny, with http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/julieandrewsmarypoppins3.shtml

Wow, who's the idiot who decided we can only pick three? ?Seriously, some very good stuff here--my "short list" was about 2/3 of them. ?

Uranus--3 points. ?I'm sorry but I love puns and it's the ultimate song for the ultimate pun. ?I'll NEVER get sick of "Uranus". ?NEVER.

Hello Philip, Nice Armada--2 points. ?Very clever wordplay; I'm a sucker for killer rhymes.

Mr. Miracle Guy--1 point. ?Quite an achievement, and summing up the Son of God as a "pest who got arrested" clinched it.

Thanks for taking the initiative, grim.  Just want to import the contest rules here, too, for reference; I think we still have a few voters to go but a good week+ til the deadline.  Also, assuming we're doing an April contest the first entrant should just cut and paste the rules for the Entry thread:

~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.
~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.
~~By entering, you are agreeing to read all the other entries and vote.
~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.
~~Vote by replying to this thread with your three favorites in order:  Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest should copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.
~~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post.  Changes are made only when a majority of that month's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

Well, I'm officially late, but I hope I can still officially vote. Too much good work, it would be wrong to pick only three, but what's wrong with being wrong every once in a while?

1st: 10. John Jenkins / Hello Phillip, Nice Armada

2nd: 7.  Rick Duncan / The Laker

3rd: 8.  Jeff Reuben / Pee Pee in a Bottle

I guess everyone's had enough time to vote now.  The only one who didn't was Michael McVey but Phil voted even though he didn't enter (thanks Phil) so we'll just count his.  The whole messageboard switch threw things off a bit anyway.  Plus it wasn't even close:  Congrats to John Jenkins for the March Song of the  Month:  Hello Philip, Nice Armada.

The vote totals:

First Place:  John Jenkins 34
Second Place:  Spaff 16
Third Place:  Ethan 14

MooRocca 8
Rick D 8
2nz 7
Claude 6
neminem 4
Jared 3
Jeff Reuben 3
Paul Robinson 3
Guy DiRito 2
Johnny D 2
Rice/Watt 2
Adagio 1
Agrimorfee 1

If anyone's interested, I'm gonna go ahead and post an entry thread for April now.

Thanks to all who read my parody, especially those who commented on it and voted for it.  A big (on-going) thanks to Claude for making SOTM happen, and we definitely have to thank ChuckyG for discontinuing the Top 10 lists, which led indirectly to the creation of SOTM (maybe I should thank the vote inflater, as well, but I'm not convinced there really was one).  And thanks, as well, to all of those, particularly Rick Duncan, who have previously shown that history is a good source for parody material.

And I also appreciate the congratulatory comments expressed by adagio, agrimorfee, and Johnny D.

Nicely done, John. Well, deserved and all that. Really tough competition here. I enjoyed catching up on all the songs that seem to slip by me around here. Thanks for making it fun everyone, and see you in the next one, where I will surely get trounced due to my lack of new songs last month.  ;D
