Subject: ABCs Round E voting

strong competition... but first an example of brilliant writing by someone so talented that he won the round each time he entered a song and isn't allowed to win anymore:

Not ready to cast my vote yet . . . I wanted to give folks a little more info about the original song that my "E" entry parodies:

I knew nearly all of those... makes a change.  It's another hard choice, but I'm going with Ethan's Euclidian Rhapsody (#7), if only for the final punchline.

Yeah, on Johnny D's note: I noticed a couple people saying they didn't know the original, or that their download didn't work, so I thought I'd mention the link I already provided on the first e thread - http://www3.hmc.edu/~afield/No_Doubt_-_In_My_Head.mp3

Hmm... thank you for telling me. Turns out I forgot to replace the spaces with underscores in the song name. It works now.

A close call...just by a few inches (lack of topicality, a great story, a laugh in every stanza)...i humbly award my "E" vote toJohnny's "Edmund Fitzgerald" parody  (i blush to type the correct title, out of context it just looks too weird...) ::)

So, Nem - the link should work now?  I've got 3 or so I need to link/listen to still.  My Internet is very slow tonight so I'll try them all  tomorrow morning (Tuesday).  pr

Oh boy,  this was really tough.  I was all set to vote for Spaff's "Lynddie" and then I checked out Johnny D's "Edmund Fitz." and was torn between those two...And then I heard Jeff Reuben's "Every Toe Has It's Corn"...So if I could vote for three parodies I would have no conflict, except what order to place them in.  And right behind these three are a bunch of others that I really liked, too.

Gonna go with #2 here - Jeff Reuben's "Every Toe Has It's Corn".

Great... it appears my school's webserver is down now. Presumably they're just doing maintenence or something and it'll be back up soon. But yes, theoretically it should work now.

I cannot go past "The Erection of Edmund Fitzgerald" because it is so impressive, and YES!  You can read that more than one way  ;D

Voting for Spaff

Subject: Re: ABCs Round E voting

Written By: Spaff.com on 05/27/04 at 9:51 pm

Hard to choose, blah blah blah.

This round, I was a sucker for the "E"ducational parodies. So I found #4 - Philbo's "Element the Eighth" - exceptionally clever, but I have to award my very non-cryptic vote to #7 - "E"-thang's "Euclidean Rhapsody." (So count again.)

Phil, you broke my heart.  Then I read Ethan's parody.  It hurts when you have a good parody and you read the one that will probably beat it out.

Ethan, excellent parody, the best I've read of your stuff.  If I said that last round, well, you beat it again.

Euclidean Rhapsody.

Rick Duncan's Bald Tires was second in my book, followed by Phil's Element song in 3rd.

Oh, wow! This is a close one, between "Evil Candy Man" and "Everyone knows it's Lynndie."

The second is funnier, but the first will still be funny 5, 10, or even 20 years from now.

So I guess "Evil Candy Man" gets my vote, and "Lynndie" gets a very notable honorable mention.

I decided to show proper respect for my elders and cast my vote for Paul Robinson's 'Every Day (I'm A Gettin' Older)' ..... Paul, you've shown us the one sure fountain of youth - a sense of HUMOR! ;D

Hey, Thank you, Johnny D...if I didn't already feel the enthusiasm of a stupid teen-ager this morning I'd say that remark made me feel younger.  Getting together with a lot of different sets of friends this weekend and then spending Sunday evening with my Dad and older brother Pete.

Really hard to choose this time  came down to a choice between Spaff's biting satire  and Mike Armstrong .. but my vote in the end goes to The End of Innocence .... very atmospheric lyric  loved it...

i  (selfishly) don't want to vote for spaff (i haven't counted the totals but they seem close) but it's too relavent and well written not to. So i'm casting my vote for 14 and probably shooting myself in the foot

Congratulations to Spaff, but also to Ethan (Good Sportsmanship once again rears it's ugly head, eh?).  This "E" ticket was definitely worth the price of admission.  It was chock full of great stuff.  Thanks to all for the looks & comments on my entry.

Thanx, all, but I'm afraid your exclamations are premature.

By my count, "Euclidean Rhapsody" and "Everyone Knows It's Lynndie" got five votes apiece. Since the final vote was cast by the generous sportsman Ethan, who could have ensured victory for himself by voting for any parody but mine (or by not voting at all), I think "Euclidean Rhapsody" should be the winner.

But wait a minute, Spaff.  What you're doing is ALSO a superb example of Good Sportsmanship.  Does that match Ethan's and cancel it out?  Man, we've got to be careful with this...might be setting a dangerous precedent.   And what if Selfless
Acts of Good Sportsmanship were to spread to the "outside" world?  Hmmm...not much chance of that,  is there?

Seriously, though, a Double Round of "Bravo's" for both of you.  A large part of what makes this so much fun is the spirit of fair play, ethics and appreciation for the efforts of others that runs so clearly through these contest threads.  pr

Why do we have to have just the one winner?  I mean, it's not as if we're handing out anything other than kudos.  Maybe it's just 'cause I like "Euclidian Rhapsody" ;)
