Because we have a number of new people participating, this seems like a good time to remind everyone that the best way to enjoy the contest is to see it more as a "feedback exchange".  You don't have to comment on each parody the way a lot of people do, but in general, the more thought and attention you give to the other songs, the more you'll receive for yours.  Also please remember to cast a regular (3 fives or whatever)-type vote for each song, even if you think you've already voted, just to make sure.  This is  a very competitive ordeal, and a lot of these excellent songs won't receive many contest votes. That's why it's so important the authors receive lots of regular votes and comments for their trouble.  All right, good luck all.

Philbo, can you tell the rest of us how to link text like you do, so we can all post our entries by title?

If you enter a link like this:
{url=http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/georgiasatellites1.shtml}Keep Your Chants To Yourself{/url}

(but use square brackets rather than squiggly ones)

...but I'm kind of lazy - I use my amiright viewer program which has a "Copy EZ tag" which sticks the above sort of link onto the clipboard

Since I know hardly any of the original songs, what would be the easiest way to download the original for a bit of sing-along time?  My computer is fairly wonky when it comes to downloading.  :-\\

You can get samples, Emi, by listening to iTunes, go to Amazon.com for samples, and some of the contestants leave mp3s or midis with their parodies, like me.

Emi,

Adagio's reply is right on --- there are a lot of places, like the ones she mentioned, where one can get samples.

My entry, #24, "Amish Aerobics", comes with a comprehensive set of links to MP3 samples from "Disco Inferno", a MIDI of "Disco Inferno", and a copy of the original lyrics of "Disco Inferno".

My MP3 links take you to very small, easily-downloaded samples.  And the MIDI is pretty small, too.

CRAP!!!!  I just realized I left out one of the entries from this thread--The Shot  by Ash, a first time participant who was told she wouldn't get any respect.  I've added it now and I implore anyone who's already voted to go back and read it.  If you've already voted and you feel you may have voted for it, you may not change your vote, BUT you may award it up to three bonus points if you like.  I can't think of any other way to be fair.  I apologize for my mistake.

These monthly contests just get better and better. As I went through the entries, I kept a list of those that ABSOLUTELY HAD TO BE IN THE TOP THREE. Unfortunately, there were seven of 'em. It caused me physical pain to have to narrow it to these three:

3 points: #23 "The Bent Retainer"
2 points: #16 "Thetis, Don’t Let Achilles Go Off to Invade Troy"
1 point: #4 "Eat the Rest"

3rd: Johnny D's Amish Aerobics

And a very special honourable mention to Emiloca's parody..she would get a vote if I had another to give. Good luck everyone!  ::)

I'll be officially back next week, but I'm trying to stay current with the contests. Even though I haven't voted or commented like I should, I did read them all and gave it proper thought.

3 points to MooRocca for "Can". It's actually a concept I was toying with as a group game called "Definitions".  She managed to play it in a great parody, so she should win.

2 points to Phil "Sir Farqualot" for a great naughty tale

1 point to Emiloca for a well-written tome on a tough song. I thought Claude had the best parody of this song, now it's a toss-up.

Everybody else had some really great stuff, too. Hang in there, Ash.

This was a banner month in terms of the competition, but a song that garners 38 straight 5's votes (about to be 39 after I write this post) must be honored in a Hallowed Hall.

Subject: Re: June Song Of The Month Voting

Written By: Claude_Prez on 07/27/04 at 7:54 pm

Spaff said what I was gonna say--There were way too many great ones this month and it totally blows that we can't vote for more.

Three points to #7--Spaff's fantastic Madonna parody (everyone's heard the recording, right?)

Two points for #4--EmiLoca's "Eat The Rest".

One point for #23--Leo Jay's "The Bent Retainer".

I have to specify these honorable mentions--Phil, MooRocca, Johnny, 2nz, Rick...I better stop or I'll mention nearly everybody.  Great job all.

Subject: Re: June Song Of The Month Voting

Written By: EmiLoca on 07/27/04 at 9:12 pm

This being my first time entering the competition, I can't say that this was a particularly competitive round.  And yet...I'm saying it.  It was so difficult trying to decide who deserved the top votes this month, and now that there's...what...a week left of July, I suppose I'd better vote.  Everyone who submitted a song is deserving of much praise and chocolate cake.  Alas, I must choose three... *deep breath*

3 points to Leo Jay's "The Bent Retainer".  Not only was this extremely creative and witty, but every time he grates my nerves, I can read this parody and remember why I still bother communicating with the jerk.

2 points to Almighty Spaff's "".  Comic genius, I must say, and sets a godly standard for other poor fools who plan on parodying the original song. Grovel, grovel.

1 point to 2nz for "Major Anti-Socialite".  'Twas brimming with playful jabs and comic genius, and the choice of song made it all the more funnier.

Honorable mention to "Amish Aerobics", "Can", and "Thetis" - all lyrical gems.

Firstly, congratulations Spaff. A well deserved win in a contest packed with talent. Don't spend the prize money all in one place, if it ever comes. I don't know about JJ and Rick, but I've been waiting a month now for mine to get here...

Didn't make it... :-' to (((parody))) the fact that the two voters before me both said 'made it' and got in before the (((official))) time. I was attempting to be funny, but also pointing out that while this is still a lenient and friendly contest, in a strict rule enforcement, Nurse Ratchet kind of contest, I'd be screweded.

Mighty Spaff, congratulations!  You are, in all seriousness, one of the most highly-skilled and funniest parody writers to ever grace Chucky's website.

Mr. Spafford, please accept both these heartfelt congratulations from me, Johnny D-i-c-k-head, along with my sincere apologies for my lame attempt at humor when I dredged-up that old, tired, boring urban dictionary joke about your nom-de-plume when you said (in the comments section of my parody "If I Were A D-i-c-k-head") that you were thinking of calling me Johnny D-i-c-k-head!  ;D

Many congratulations, Mr. com, on a not-so-surprising win.  If it makes your head swell, you're one of my most looked-up-to role models (right up there with Shamu and Dennis Rodman).  You have talent, mad skillz, and a funny name -  I want to be just like you if I grow up.

Also congratulations to Mr. Alexander for a very amusing parody that I enjoyed very much.  But...since you don't have a funny name, I can't fawn over you like I did others...

Well done to all the rest of you.  I can honestly say that I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE ONE of your parodies, and it was so tough to vote on...um...okay.  I'm done now.  Sorry.  *ducks out*

I have to say, of this month's winners, you three are my favorites!

Thanx, y'all.

I've gotta admit that back when I wrote "Esther," I didn't know if it'd even get entered in the SOTM contest, let alone place in the top three. I mean, come on, look at the quality and intricacy of the entries we're getting. You all are raising the bar so high so fast that I'm afraid that, come December, it'll take a parody of the entire Old Testament to even have a fighting chance in the contest.

As for EmiLoca taking a break, I don't believe that for a second. She's probably wrapping up Exodus and starting into Leviticus right about now.

Hmm, if only I knew it was still open yesterday. Oh well it's not like I had any votes anyway, and I can forfeit the next round since I don't have anything to submit. This is me being optimistic... is it working?

Anyway sorry about not voting, I actually became busy this month so I completely forgot.
